Default The Little Red Light From Hell

Hey Folks, Just bought a 1990 Eurospec S2 with 35,000 miles on it a couple of days ago. I started the car this morning (first day in my driveway) and the red "EX" light instantly began flashing and has been on consistantly since then. I have read a few posts referring to what this warning light 'may' be, but nobody seems to actually 'know' why the light would start flashing immediately upon starting the car. If this is an exhaust temp sensor I am a little confused as to why it would flash immediately upon cold start. ...and this light is drivin' me crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Do you mean the ! light?

Usually there is another light on the dash lit up at the same time to give you a hint of why the light is on. Do you know if all of the bulbs in your cluster are working?

If it's the ! then there are many things that could be doing that.

As Mhr says there is usually another light on...but you could also have a bulb out in the dash.

I have had that on for:

Low Oil
ABS pump failure
Bad alternator

and probably a few other things along the way.

The US version does not have a EX light. Some one in Europe/ Japan might be able to help.
Do you have the owners manual?
Reviewing the Rest of the World/Japan schematic it appears to be related to a temperature sensor on the catalytic converter. Relay G16 is in the circuit that controls the EX light.
The catalytic temperature sensor or wiring could be bad. (open circuit)

+1 my UK euro had this. No O2 sensor, no cat, just an exhaust gas temperature (EGR) sensor. Some other euros and jap models had a cat, O2 sensor and EGT, varies by countries emissions. Flashing either means the sensor is bad or there is a break in the circuit.

Now everyone knows why there is what looks like another O2 sensor blank on the downpipe on US models.
