Default Water Pump Brands

Has anyone had any experience with GMB water pumps?

I've done a search and it sounds like they are OEM for some other cars (not german). A late style pump is $89 to my door. It sounds like they might be pretty good quality. Has anyone ever used one?

I'd rather not deal with a rebuilt pump and have to deal with sending in the core and stuff like that.

Thanks,
Jackson

I bought an OEM pump from Porsche for my 968 for $179 from Sonnen Porsche. For $90 more I'd rather have one from Porsche and not have to worry about the quality. But that's just me. I've done enough waterpumps on these cars to know that it's really a job you want to repeat again soon.

Wow! I just called Sonnen Porsche and $225 for a genuine water pump. Everywhere I've looked it was like $385 for a genuine Porsche or $300 for a Laso OEM. Thanks!

Zims has experienced rebuilders and will not take damaged WPs as cores.

I installed a GMB on my wife's Toyota and the impeller exploded after about 80k miles. I will never buy another one.

80,000 miles doesn't cut it? I'd be happy with that at a fifth of the price of a new one.

That's what I don't want to deal with. The water pump in this 924S I'm looking at is making a lot of noise. It sounds like the impeller has made contact with the housing. Zims won't ake that as a core and with a core charge it will be $195 to get a water pump that has been rebuilt at least once. If a new water pump is $225 there is really no reason get a rebuilt unit.

OEM or Laso is the way to go.

I've seen rebuilt pumps made on damaged cores... where the impeller hit the housing.

Only new for me.

I had a Zim's pump on my old 924. It lasted 7 years on an engine that saw a ton of abuse.

I have a brand new Laso water pump on my 951 for 1 year with 3000 miles that is already leaking.

Just saying.
