Default Turbo with a factory Auto Trans?

No, its not one of those threads LoL.

I have an '89 2.7L NA with the three speed Auto.

We all know the NA ones are geared ridiculously tall. I am just curious if any Turbo/Turbo S (US or Euro) came from the factory or were special ordered with an Autobox turbo transmission.

944S's could have autos, right, but how about the late S2's? It's not like they had the 968 tiptronic yet.

Just thinking outside the box about unique cars and/or ones ordered with strange options (like Jeff and the 968 guys do) and wondered if any of these exist.

You couldn't get the Turbo or S2 with an auto.

Couldn't get it, yes, but what about a factory test/prototype one-off, or some nut with money demanding it? After all, our cars are from the time that you could pretty much pay Porsche for anything you wanted, which we are all quite aware of.

+1 But if your thinking out of the boxe this 951 CAB is ultra rare, source indicate only 525 were built 255 of them for ROW .I beleive there is a RL member who has one but can't remember his name.

The 944 wasn't like the 911 in terms of "all it takes is money".

The 944 had many options but it was pretty cut and dried in terms of what you can and can't have. Paint to sample was only available near the end of 944 production.

I was referring to the "all it takes is money" period as exactly that - a period of time. I know the 944 did not have a lot of stuff you could "get" for it, even the vintage tequipment/boutique add-ons weren't all that great. I'd just like to think a few New 944 buyers back in the day had the courage to get a little crazy...

i like where your heads at. it seems like the main difference in options was that the 968 was built at Zuffenhausen and the 944 was built at neckarsulm. perhaps the fact that it was outsourced limited the crazy option possibilities? it seems there is no shortage of off the wall 968s out there, especially for there only being less than 5000 total stateside... not making a comment on build quality or which is better btw. just thinking out loud... or... typing out loud... you know what i mean.

Thanks for the support! I really think there had to be some crazy cars rolling around, whether factory prototype or special ordered. We've seen some of the more unusual stuff in factory custom interiors like the crest horn pad, crazy materials, etc. so why wouldn't someone get adventurous for a car for them or their significant other, etc. They did it with other Porsches, I don't see why it would be that crazy if it happened with just a few 944s...

I doubt it. If there were, I'm pretty sure documentation would have surfaced. Either way, what does it really matter? No one (outside of custom jobs) has an auto-951. Waste of time IMO.

I don't there would be. The automatics tend to be spendy, SPENDY options. I think the 968 was a $6k option? Something crazy.

I DO like where your brain is at as well.

Whenever I see pics of the Cayanne, I go..."Hmmm...would that fit in the 944? How bout the 928?!"

LOL!

I think we all would just love the return of the 944 or 928 and have it down right. Plenty of power. I mean, come on...they say the wanted to keep the 911 pure and the cost out of reach vs. the power plant. Fine. Save that for the gt crowd. Start at 300+ hp and give us the option of 944/928/cayman
