That is what I currently have on my winter set of wheels. I would likely go with some tires that are a little larger in the front. Maybe go witha 245 in the rear?

I have heard the Sumitomo HTRZIII is a good tire choice and it is cheap. Just another suggestion. If you need all seasons there is only 1 tire that is worth it. Continental Extreme Contact DWS. Its by far the best tire out there.

----Don't agree with 205-50-17 on a 7.5 x 17 wheels.

Fintro11___Tires recomanded for a 7.5 rim width are 225-45-17, & that is the width of your front wheels rigth? ( you better check on that before buying)So what I'm saying is that 205-50-17 are not wide enougth for your 7.5 front wheels.Somebody correct me on this if I'm wrong.

Not to disagree with Ernie9468, but you can get away with 205's on the 7.5. But we're talking about tires for a 944, not a 911. I'd pick the 225's as 'ernie' mentioned. As an added plus, this will help with curb rash too.

I even remember another thread discussing going square (same size all 4 corners...) on a 944/968.

But then again, 10 guys here will give you 20 different answers.

Going back to the original question, was this for overall performance vs. durability vs. aesthetics?

Regards,

This was an overall best choice from reading this I think I will go with the continentals and go with the 225 size, I trust Ernie has a lot more Expirence with tires than I do all I have in tire Expirence is dealing with tire biters

I'm gonna need new tires for my twists sometime in the future... This is exactly what I needed to know

Up to you but don't go with falken 512 on your 944, if you choose Falken at least go with the 452.

Conti's are nice, I have them on my other car. I like Yokohamas a lot too, and they are usually pretty cheap. I always search the tire rack reviews before ordering.

I mainly meant tire sizes. Falken is still my favorite.. Don't remember which type I currently use.

I have the pilot sport 3's on mine and absolutely love them. After I got them I read a car mag review and they out performed all other tyres in the test(over 10 tyres tested)

They might not be the cheapest but considering the tyre is what keeps my car on the road, I am not interested in trying to save a few $$s. Keeping my car and myself in one piece, and the car planted firmly on the road is all I care about. If you can't afford good tyres, with good grip and good wet weather performance, then sell your car and take the bus. There are some things in life you just can't go cheap on. Tyres are one of them and I'm guessing hookers would be another

For that much money I would seriously look at Tire Rack and having them drop shipped somewhere. Or take them tire racks price including shipping. That seems awefully high for some tires.
