I own an E36 M3 and of course my 944 and a squared setup on cars with dynamics like these cars (50/50) is great...I would never go 205 up front...
Staggered setups are most important for cars with either tons of hp or to induce understeer which is safer than nuetral or oversteer...squared is good...slightly staggered is fine too

I have the pilot sport 3's on mine and absolutely love them.After I got them I read a car mag review and they out performed all other tyres in the test(over 10 tyres tested)
They might not be the cheapest but considering the tyre is what keeps my car on the road, I am not interested in trying to save a few $$s. Keeping my car and myself in one piece, and the car planted firmly on the road is all I care about. If you can't afford good tyres, with good grip and good wet weather performance, then sell your car and take the bus. There are some things in life you just can't go cheap on. Tyres are one of them and I'm guessing hookers would be another

mine where $300 a piece(Toyo T1R). theres that much grip i cant spin the tires on 18 psi on 2nd gear. with my old falkens fk452, those things lacked that much grip (or the toyos just have to much) i spun then in 1st 2nd and 3rd on wot with being easy on the clutch.
Not so good in the wet. but who goes WOT in the wet seriously.

Ok so I got ahold of the family shop
Falken fk452 $890 installed
Continental extreme contact dw 969.00
Now to try compair the two, has any one used both of these? I am at work, trying to compare tires on an iPhone is hard

go for the continental tires!
the Falken FK452 wear out on the edges very quick and become useless because they'll be classified as un roadworthy

For the record: 205 Fronts with 255 Rears are factory recommendations for 911s because this induces understeer at higher speeds... This is really for Legal Reasons because (as we all know) 911s were/are known for dangerous oversteer causing people to crash...
Understeer is much easier to control by simply applying the brakes* a little and getting traction back to the front wheels.
*The natural reaction of most people.
Tire Distributors and Car Manufacturers are therefore encourage to recommend this setup to people.
NOW, your best bet for a 944 (which is a pretty balanced car) is a pretty balanced tire setup; Either the Same Size front and back (as standard factory had them) or a fairly close setup; 225 fronts with 245 or 255 rears.
Basically: I would not recommend 205 fronts with 255 rears for a 944na

I'm digging all of the "square" recommendations in this thread. I went 225/50/16 all around for my car and wondered if i should have staggered.. Tires should be in by the end of the week.

Too late now, but I have used Yokohama for years, but since I don't track the car anymore, I run a nice set of BFG supersport z rated rubber. $800 installed/balanced. I wouldn't spend any less than that on performance tires. (Not saying that $ equals performance, but you do get what you pay for to certain degree)

i know the michelin pilot sports are amazing but for a street car IMHO its to expensive. you can find a good quality tire that is sticky and last longer for way less. last time i looked a pilot sport was way over 150 a tire. i use falken 512. i love them and i use a 225/45-17 on my 7.5in turbo twist and a stretched 235/45-17 on the 9in. they are good IMHO and i got them for 78 bucks a piece.

Excuse my ignorance but whats the reason some people run their tires stretched?(narrow tire on a wide rim)
