Question Rear Seat Delete

I've removed the rear seat and would like to re-carpet it in felt, but there are two screws sticking up near the top of the hump.

Any idea what it's for and would there be any problem if I cut them down some to make them shorter?

Thanks in advance...

I got rid of the heavy seat backing but left the seat cushion. The cushion weighs almost nothing and then you can still call it a four seat sports car.

They're for split seats. That's where the plastic hinge bracket attaches. You can cut them off or grind them down. I left mine in place and they can't be seen with the carpet over them.

Thats what I did, everything past the front seats. Though now I am looking into thin/lite sound deadening options now.

Like rgs944 said, just get rid of the fold down back part. That's the heavy part. I took that out as well as the insulation underneath the trunk carpet. Probably saved me 50 lbs combined. (guessing)

I've taken out all the sound deadening; footwell, tunnel, front floor, rear seats, arches, rear deck floor and replaced with the appbiz carpet.

The appbiz kit covers most things really well, but does take a little custom fitting without the sound insulation. Now I've done that, and driven it a while, my only concern is really the heat - so I'm thinking to insulate the section of the exhaust that runs under the cabin and/or add back some thin insulation under the carpet.

Most of the noticeable noise is from the transmission through the rear deck - so i think some adhesive type insulation there would be very effective.

Good luck with your seat delete.

After removing the rear seat I've removed all the insulation and old glue with acetone.

Now I'm in the middle of installing sound deadening everywhere in the back, first Dynamat and then a layer of Dynaliner. For the rear cargo area I'm using Dynapad to give me some height, it's a half inch thick, so the carpet lays flat and for the extra sound deadening.

I've purchase the perlon felt carpet from APPBIZ with the rear seat delete kit and will be installing it next.

I may have to redo the rear cargo carpet because the kit has the spare tire hump and I'm planning to remove the spare tire in install a sub woofer in its place. So I need extra felt material to make a new one using the other one as a template.

So far so good, I'll post some pictures once I finish the sound deadening and before installing the felt carpet.

Thanks again for the advice...

I'm not sure how to link to another thread but if you do a search for 'RS Carpet Kit w/pics' under my user name you'll find a thread I started for the AppBiz kit.
Be sure and check out the link, still looks good today.
Good luck.
