Default 944 Engine Clean Up

I’m trying to get the engine in my 1983 944 as close to new as possible. This is an early build car with no cruise control, no power steering (or ps reservoir bracket) and coolant bleeder on the top hose. After looking at several original pix of the engine I think I’m getting it close to new, here are a few pix as it is now.

The 944 had some cosmoline/tectyl applied to the chassis, suspension and the bottom of the oil pan, but not in the engine compartment.

Truly amazing work! Only two things I noticed, upgraded water pump and no spoiler on drivers wiper arm. Good work.

Looks fantastic! What did you use on the intake/cam cover/metal bits to get such a great result?

You're right about the up-graded water pump, this was changed last year for the first time (in 29 years) with the belts. The early 944's did not have a spoiler on the driver wiper arm or blade.

You could be right on the 83 US model but I'm sure the first 82 models had them. I have a couple of motor mags reviews from 81 that show the car with that spoiler on the drivers side. Unfortunately they are hard to see in the original pics, you can just make them out but if i photograph them the resolution makes them disappear.

Didn't have any wiper spoiler on my ex 83 neither & never seen an 83 with that option.Maybe on early ROW car but not US/CDN models
