Wink She said "Paint it Red".....awe...what the hell, why not!

My ash tray was horribly rusted so I put it in the bast cabinet and cleaned it up. Still pretty pitted on the inside.

Before I went to paint it Jeska said, "Paint it Red! You are only going to see it when it's open anyway"

Small detail, adds a touch of fun. So here it is before assembly.

Sand blasted, painted with red caliper paint and baked in the oven!

Interestingly I just "polished" mine up. What a pain that was.

I remember a story about the painter Von Dutch. A guy brought in a car and did not know what he wanted, but something custom. So he calls and not ready. Then calls and not ready. He calls and it is ready. Goes over to the shop and sees nothing. Starts to get mad - then he notices something inside. Paint on the ashtray. He opens it to find the beginning of a big Von Dutch creation with the exotically done eyeball in the ashtray.

I was thinking about just having mine chromed and putting it back in.

I suppose it could depend on what color your car is. My car is red, so this will add a littlew touch inside.

The first time I cleaned this up I just painted it silver.

Your red is good and came out nicely - my car is red too BTW.

But as I was just doing this I was thinking of what to do the next time I am working on smaller cosmetics on the car. Chrome will get you home for some things anyway. Up right now for me is the sticking speedometer which just began. Then some wheel and brake paint work, then .... hey now I wish I was just on the ashtray job LOL!

Well, mine didn't start out as a little project. Nothing on this car worked when I bought it. ( not the engine, torque tube, clutch, nothing!)

Here is where it started!

Here it is now!
