Looking for a crack free early black dash.

...Brief pause to let laughter subside...

I realize they are NLA and may no longer exist but I'm really not a fan of dash caps or carpets. Leather recovering is an option and looks nice but is not original.

Let the mocking begin...

you may be able to find one. scour the forums, craigslist, and ebay. classic 9 will recover your dash in vinyl to look original. an original uncracked dash will be tough to find.

I just cut mine up to fit in the race car.. and now it doesn't fit because of the knee bar.

in seriousness, you might look around locally to see if there is anyone with a vacuum bag system you could use or slip them a few bucks for their time - the original vinyl is vacuum pressed onto the dash foam. the vinyl comes off pretty easily with a heat gun and replacement stuff (close match, not exact) is easy to find.

if you find something of this nature please let us know - i am considering it for my own.

I know its a long shot but if ELLSSUU found one maybe there are more. Been looking for a while and all I've found is the occasional late dash - there is a nice looking one on eBay right now.

We have one at the shop that hasn't been in a car in 20 years but rather sitting covered on a shelf. I think it is promised to a project already though.

how bout a mint grey carpet for a 968 ? same as bad. bad as same.

the problem isn't the dash.... it's the thousand dollar ++ cost of

1. un-install.

2. recovered in proper, stitched leather.

3. re-install.

i'm gonna find a shop in the backwoods of Tennessee or something.

or northern Florida where labor isn't in the hundreds of dollars per kilowatt hour.

It's a fair point but this is just one of those things that will bug me until I make it right.

I found a new-in-box dash last fall (I paid more than $300 for it). Its still waiting to go in my car, unfortunately, but it isn't for sale.

I do also have another dash that is cracked, but would be a good candidate for recovering - that was my plan before I found the NOS dash I bought. PM me if you're interested in it

That's the next project after resealing the rear hatch glass. Classic 9 sells a kit with a difuser trim to go over the defroster vents. It's double-stitched and is the only real way to go. Get to fix the instrument cluster lights while its apart, too.

how about Just Dashes? they recover dashes in vinyl by the vacuum method.
