Default Rod Bearing information needed.

Not sure if anyone else has tried this but i contacted clevite about creating some Rod bearings for the 944 series cars. They have contacted me back requesting information. It may lead to some where or it may not. I dont see any harm in trying but this is the information they are requesting. If anyone can help me fill in the gaps i would be more than grateful.

from Celvite
"Please give me all the information you have including glyco part number, shaft diameter, rod bore diameter, width across the bearing and the bore of the 944 in mm so i can check our coverage in Germany.

Thanks,"

944 meister You are correct and i have sent them part of the information. I would urge the rest of the board if interested contact Clevite and show a real interest in getting this done. Could result in more selection and or better product.

If you can wait a little I can mail you a set of rod bearings fresh out of a 97k mile 951 motor, if that helps.

Dont worry about it. GregBBD provided me with all the specs clevite asked for. But if you all would email/contact Clevite that would be great. Let them know we will support this product.

We make a new notch die, and new inspection tooling for the bearing,
narrow the width to your spec and sell you 1000 pieces( this is the
minimum
run). The approximate cost:

dies: $6000
shells: $10-12 each
total cost: $16,000 to $18,000
Lead time 16 -30 weeks

This is what the numbers are looking like. Even if i sold set of 4 for $90 i would still come up 4000 shy. There is our reality for getting a new bearing. Appreciate all the people that chimed in to help.

I'd be interested at least 2 sets -- sell them for break even price.

Mike. it would require me going broke to get these done. Im 28 and dont have the funds that most older people have and i would love to own a house + garage. Its not happening unless a bunch of people step up and make it happen.

This is a great community but after seeing thread after thread with all the performance parts on a car that wasnt running right to begin with i dont think we have the market for a better quality bearings for the most part.

Break even is about 150 per set. Glyco is about $70 per set. Just like the kevlar Timing belt i dont know if these are 2x better than Glyco. Logic would tell me they are not.

The good news it after the die has been bought that means that a set of bearings would cost 40- 50 dollars break even. I just dont have 6k to sink into it and then sell 500 sets.
