Default Brake upgrade for 15in wheels - Options

I know about the Willwoods but does anyone know if the Boxster brakes will fit on a 944na?

A lot of early 911 owners upgrade to Boxster brakes and they clear 15in Fuchs front and rear. Main advantages are a lighter 4-piston caliper with easier pad changes. Also, relatively cheap to buy. Anyone tried this or experimented with caliper spacers to make them fit?

Please don't tell me that na brakes are adequate or to buy the Willwoods, I want to discus other viable options front & rear.

xschop, I looked at those radial mounted Willwoods and thought they would fit, so thanks for confirming. Can you post the details like was this an early offset 944 with stock 951 early rotors? Any caliper spacers used? Did you do rears too? Also do the Phonies have more clearance than the Fuchs by chance?

The pic is of the Dynapro in the rear of an 86 951 with an early phony, which I confirmed the adapter will also fit the 928S.

That being said, the adapter will fit the front 951 rotor as well with the 15" phony. I'm going to build adapters for the NA spindles now that I know they fit.

16" Phone dial fits

16" x 7 Fuchs fit too

Light Bulb.... IIRC the 86 951 front rotor will mount to the Early hubs correct?

Sorry I'm confused. You mention 15" phonies in your first post and 16" in your second for the same pic. Are these all 15" even the Fuchs?

Very First pic is what you asked about.... 15" phone dial
2nd pic .....16" phone dial (Check out the lip difference)
3rd pic...... 16" Fuch

I have a rotor adapter that i can mount a Wilwood 2-piece and make the Early NA hubs/spindles work as well. The Rennbay kit only mounts to the thin factory 282mm Dia NA rotors. I also tried the Boxster S 318mm rotor under a 16" Fuch and it clears.

I see, but that really wont work for me. this is an 86 na with na rotors and 15" Fuchs so I need a front and rear solution that works with that set-up. I would love to upgrade to the 86 951 rotors but again I will have even more caliper clearance issues with the 15" Fuchs.

Bascially looking to decrease f&r unsprung weight with lighter 4-piston aluminum calipers that provide for easier pad changes.

The 86 951 rotor mounted to the 86 NA hub would put the caliper 20mm more inwards givin it more 15" rim clearance. That was my point. Unless you put a 300mm rotor on, you are wasting your time. The Dynapro pads are bigger than the 951 Brembo pads as well.

While we're on the subject, take a caliper and measure the distance from the inner sweep of your front rotor to the ball tie-rod/ spindle knuckle. That is the determining factor wheather the 86 951 rotor will work.

I shall begin experimentation immediately and report back.

17's and na caliper and rotor coming off, 86T rotors and 15" Fuchs ready to go on. Lunch first I think

I wish there was a 17 x 10" fuch that didn't come with a jar of Vasoline.

Any updates MagK?
Also what is the sweep width of the 86T rotor?

'86 951 front and rear brakes fit in the 15" early phone dials. But you have to use the '86 951 spindle hub/rotor in order to mount the Brembo calipers....unless you find/make an adapter to have them mounted on the NA spindle.

Phonies are too heavy, defeat the object of reducing unsprung weight.
