Default Swapped 951 alternator..same result.

Well tested my handy work...and the problem persists. This time the the gauge read 12 volts for about 2 minutes then slowly faded and the car died. I guess I'm going to tear it back apart, tomorrow and cut apart my harness to check for broken wires?

If I find that's the actual culprit...what is the best method? Splice in a new wire? Does Pepe Boys sell replacement harness sheaths?

I will be taking a look into my battery grounds also...but the car hadn't shown any of the symptoms of a corroded connection.

A bad battery shouldn't matter once the car is running right? I'm under the assumption the alt would keep the car running.

The plus...I did find 2 cracks in my j-boot. It was original and hard as a rock. I also have a better understanding of how the 951 is laid out..

Talk to someone parting a car, and replace the whole harness. If it's that bad, what's the integrity of the rest o the harness like?

It looks fine...there was a wear spot right behind the alt. I could see the blue wire though it. I had a wire break on my N/A...in the headlight duct. You couldn't tell by looking..until I cut the sheath.

I'm not looking forward to tearing this car apart again...so if there are any tests I can do that would signal a broken wire..please tell me.

I have a good-shape 951 J-boot that I don't need that I'd give you a bargain on...it is fairly firm but looks to be in good shape. Can't see any cracks except for a minor tear at the turbo end, it would still seal fine on the turbo lip.

Thanks man..Lart already hooked me up though. I didnt anticipate having to do this twice. I replaced the turnbuckle also...this sucks. At least getting to the wires isn't too bad. I ****ed up and didn't test the alt before putting it in....I did replace the voltage regulator with a new one.

While I have this apart, again...is there a way to test the replaced alt without removing it?
