I wish you all the luck in the world finding a good used cover. They are more sparse than finding a chickens tooth. It is made of magnesium and corrodes/delamination sets in like crazy. Normally an attachment bolt ear will break off. At one time someone was going to make some out of aluminum over on 968forums.com, have not heard anymore about it.

Cheers,
Larry

Default Thanks GP3

That's what I am discovering. The 2.7's were aluminum. Interesting why they would choose magnesium for the 3 ltr's. Like most Porsche parts, its quite expensive new. I'm surprised no one has picked up on this and paid someone with a CNC machine to produce a few and sell them for a reasonable price.

Actually the one you show in the picture looks good compared to others I've seen. In the last picture the mount bolt holes on either side of your thumb need to be cleaned up. I don't know what kind of chemical reaction, if any, there would be using JB Weld to fill in where you file off the crud.

Cheers,
Larry

I have one. I am using it on one of my S engines, but it doesn't work the best for me because it has that extra hole in it. I'm worried crap will get in the belt area through that hole so I'm keeping it covered with a peice of high temp metallic tape. If you can find a good S cover (which may be easier to find), we can work out some kind of swap. What's that extra hole for anyway?

PorschePower...I think you are right about being easier to find. I am pretty sure I can come up with a good one for you. Gonna check with a couple of guys and will let you know. I think that that one is aluminum, so you won't have the corroding /cracking problem. Tim's correct, the extra hole is for the hall sensor.

GP3, the picture makes it look good. It doesn't show the cracks hardly at all. A friend actually suggested using JB weld, and like you say I'm not sure what kind of reaction I'll get with it being magnesium. but if it sort of works, i'll have a spare.

No. All of the 16V covers are Magnesium. That is why I bought this cover to replace my corroded one.
