sooooo ive been having this dme relay problem and had an extra but it seems like this one is bad too, so i tried the paperclip on pins 87, 87a, and 30 and it worked for 2 days just to get back and forth to work untill my new one comes in, then today i go to start the car and itll crank, needle bounces, but wont start... i hear that the dme clip thing is working cause i can hear the fuel pump. is there anyway the relay is fried or somehting like that, or do i have another problem? my reference sensors were recently changed so i dont think thats it but not sure!

There is two relays inside the dme relay....one controls the fuel pump and the other controls the power to the computer. I put a test light on my fuel pump fuse to see if it was getting power while cranking....no power at the fuse which tells me dme relay is bad....took the cover off the relay and found a cracked solder joint. I resoldered all the joins and reinstalled the cover an haven't had a problem in over a year....

I had what may well be the same problem. It could be a lot simpler than the DME relay. I assume you have checked and had no spark at the plug, which might seem like the DME. But did you use a spark detector between the coil and distributor? That is where my problem was. No spark at the plug but juice to the distributor. Cold must have caused something to shrink (shrinkage, oh my) and it lost connectivity there. Took off the wire into the distributor, shot it with contact cleaner and it fired right up.

ok so still no dme in the mail, buttt i went and cleaned all the plug and ignition wires and tried to fire it up with the bad dme "jumped" and it started to flow the oil/start and then died before it completely fired, then went back to the cranking but not actually trying to start... could the ignition coil be bad?

It's hard to tell by your picture, but those rings around the solder joints don't look good. I've been towed home twice because of those and the ones in the DME itself. I tried my hand with a soldering gun and have been problem free for a few months now

That DME relay looks fine, just flux leftovers. Not corrosion.
Check to see if the spark can jump a 1cm gap. Less and it is too weak. It might be bright and blue and shock you real good but still not be strong enough to fire across a spark plug gap with 160 psi air in the way.
Have you checked that the timing marks still line up? Otherwise it's the usual troubleshooting. Check for fuel pressure at the rail, look for wet plugs, check spark timing...
You can test the fuel pump by running a line from the rail to a 2L bottle or something and cranking the car (or I suppose jumping the DME relay contacts.) You should get a lot of gas out quickly. Like almost a liter in less than 30 seconds.
