what i don't like about conventional oil is not only centered about what i've read... from what i've read, the rotella stuff is good and can take a decent beating, but it's all basically crap.... the thin part that actually allows conventional oil to flow, goes away real quick, leaving the thick part behind. then that part gets even thicker and finally turns to sludge. it leaves a little bit more of this sludge behind after each oil change.... if i ran it in my car my engine would be all but dead by now.

You should be good with 10W40 Synthetic, something else you should be aware off,if the trans/diff oil has been in there for a while I would seriously consider dumping it & put some fresh one in there before winter set in for good. Here again you will go with a full synthetic oil 75w90, choice of oil will be yours, most popular with 944s owner are Mobil/RedLine/Swepco just to name a few. Both trans & diff use the same oil on our car .For more maintenance infos use www.clarks-garage.com once on the site enter (Garage Shop Manual ) & scroll down to what ever maintenance you want to do.

You got two plugs one upper # 22 in the diagram & one lower # 2,you want to make sure you remove the upper plug first (this will be the refill plug ) if a hoist is available it will be butter in the pan & should be done in 15 minutes worth paying a shop beleive me .Make sure you spray both plug with W-40 & let them soak before you try to remove, also you will need the rigth tool for removing the plugs will send you the size & a pic later on.

if you pick a season to run conventional oil...... let it be the summer.

winter ? hell no. good winter oil choices; synthetic 0w40, 5w40, 10w40, 0w50, 5w50.

Don't know about that Royal Purple __Mobil /Valvoline VR 1 or Brad Pen but R P not for me.It will take a while before you feel the difference shifting your tranny usually at least a couple of hundred miles.
