blaupunkt speakers help!!!
all my research has lead me to believe that the late model rear quarter panel speakers are 6.5", so i bought a set of GTc 652 6.5" blaupunkt speakers and the mounting holes on the speakers are about an inch smaller in diameter so it doesnt mount right up . i would like to stay with blaupunkt, but if anyone else out there with blaupunkt speakers? or could post a link of ones that would fit.

some '86's only had provisions for 4x6's still - my '86 Turbo was this way. On my '87, which has provisions for 6.5" rear speakers, the Blaupunkts fit just fine but the mounting holes don't exactly line up.

if it makes a difference, its a 91' s2 that had the 10 speakers sound system. the cross measurement between mounting holes center was some thing like 6 3/4 or 7" in the car and the new speakers were smaller in diameter. what series of 6.5 speakers do you have in your car? otherwise i will just make a mounting bracket.

ok I've never had a car with the 10 speaker option so I don't know what was back there. I actually have the Infinity Kappy series 6.5's not Blaupunkt, but the only major difference between brands is mounting depth

What exactly are you trying to do? Are you getting rid of the OE 10-speaker system and going aftermarket, or are you trying to retain the factory setup? OE speakers are still available and they're fairly inexpensive. They're made by Nokia in Hungary if origin of manufacture interests you (it does me because all the aftermarket stuff is now made in China).
If you're going aftermarket, you'll either have to fabricate a bracket or modify the speakers and drill new mounting holes on the car. I've modified a pair of NOS 6.5" German made MB Quarts to fit and it involved cutting a little off of one side of the mounting flange. An easier way is to make a mounting plate from 3/4" marine-grade plywood that fits in place of the factory speaker adapter using all the original mounting holes.

I already got rid of the old broken 10 speaker system and am simplyfying it with just two coaxial speakers in the rear, i guess I'm sort of a minimalist. I'd rather go with a higher powered aftermarket blaupunkt speaker rather than the stock speaker and it Doesn't look like they offer a direct bolt up replacement so ill have to make a bracket.

Manufacturing country of origin does interest me, but I have the speakers already and am leaning towards just making a mounting bracket. Though I Suppose I just supported capitalistisms abuse of Chinese slavery when I purchased the speakers, oh well I'm an evil Ba$t#rd.

On my 87' 951 I just replaced my rear speakers and a pair of 4x6 Sonys I bought fit perfect. It did seem there was a metal plate there which had 4 other screws, that if removed would have room for a bigger speaker I think...Is that what you did 944meister?
Crap, those speakers ARE prolly made in China.
