Default Recarpeting with roll of carpet

Hey, I bought my first Porsche this summer, an '87 944 with the intention of turning it into a weekend driver/DE car. The car needed a lot of work, the paint was gone on most of the car (metal was showing) the interior was porno red and cracked everywhere.

I tore the interior out of the car, the carpet had mildew on it from the targa roof leaking. The backseat also was pretty much shot from the same reason. I replaced the front seats with Cobra Monaco S's and I purchased dual Race-Tech 5-point harnesses. I am planning to get a roll cage installed in the near future hence the 5-pts. I stripped out all of the black gooey **** and a bunch of the sound deadener. That was a fun week of my life.

Anyway, I want this car to be more friendly on the street to its passengers and therefore I want to have carpet, however I don't want a center console, i've seen deletes on here and I love that look. I want a minimalist interior.

I found a site that sells yards of black carpet that is 80" wide. Now my question, how many yards do you think I would need? I also imagine that I would need a general automotive carpet spray adhesive. I was planning to try and flatten out the stock carpet pieces to get a template for some of the harder parts. Has anyone done this? I would really love some helpful input for a new guy.

On another side note, to fix my dash I was thinking of getting one of those plastic overlays but covering it with suede before installing it. Would this work or look dumb as hell?

Thanks guys

EDIT: Just realized that this was my first post, here is a picture of my car. (Paint isn't finished yet, wheels and mirrors need to be painted black and blue respectively.)

i used a standard roll of carpet, id say prolly an 80 inch roll like you have, i bought 5 yards. i had enough to do the whole floor pan and the hatch carpet, along with a speaker panel that covers the back seats, and still have some left over.

FWIW, when I bought my car it had a dash overlay and home made carpet installed. I replaced them with products from classic 9 leather shop. If you do it yourself make sure you use good quality materials.

The carpet I am looking at is a quality automotive carpet, I wouldn't say its cheap maybe its a good value. The plastic overlay is on pelican parts and I would get some authentic suede or alcantara.

Does anyone have any tips on where to start with the carpeting? Front or rear?

Search for appbiz and RS carpet kit. There is a PDF somewhere on here that will tell you exactly what to do. If you can't find it PM me your email and I will send it to you.

the front floorpan is pretty easy to trace out. the rear is a little more complicated; i ended up doing mine in several pieces to attach together

I found the link on post number 62. You should be able to copy it with modifications to suit your needs.
