I'm surprised no ones made a cup holder out of the armrest location... I have plans to do this in the future, the arm rest would have to be raised about an inch though.

I LOVE cup holder threads!

Here's my post from the other thread:

Exactly my plan, only I couldn't locate cup holders like that! What I ended up getting was a new armrest door and a set of plastic cup holders (sort of like these) with the intent of finding some plastic storage bin that could be attached to the door and cut out to take the cup holders.

I think I'll order the narrow one you pointed out and see how that works. Right now, I'm rocking the Cup Pilot.
I've already ordered the narrower cup holder from Autobarn ($16). I found the measurements for it on Amazon (11 x 4 x 3.1 inches), so when I get home I'll measure that new armrest door and see how it's going to fit. I have a long trip coming up in a couple weeks (Pittston, PA to Parris Island, SC - 800 miles), so I'm hoping to get this done before then.

Yay, now I can post my cup holder project on this thread. Once I do it of course. Motivation!

I would hate to lose the armrest. I also think that anything in the cup holder there would get hit by my elbow when shifting....

Well the hinge is pretty weak so i don't know that it would be the best idea to use the armrest like that. Plus the intrusion into the passenger seat area is the same as the walmart cupholder, without the solidity that the walmart one has.

I'm working on a billet change tray to replace the worthless 1/3 opening POS ashtray. It''l have a nice 3/4" deep lip for the single cupholders to latch onto and removes with ease.

I'm interested in this. I don't need a cupholder, but the stupid lid on the ashtray rattles like crazy. Plus, I don't smoke anyways.

I have been waiting for another Cup Holder thread to show off my latest cup holder. I was on ebay and someone was selling their car and in the picture of the inside was this cup holder. I sent a question and asked where did you get the cup holder and he said it was out of his BMW and he modified it to fit in his 944. I searched the internet for BMW cup holder and found a site that sold them. I did have to take my scroll saw and cut a piece off the mounting bracket so it would fit up under the edge of the center console side piece. It took one screw that if I remove it you will never be able to see where it was.

I love that I can just pop it out of the holder bracket and put in the glove dept if I need to for a passenger that might find it in their way

___No it want if you use the rear cup holder for tall cups & the front one for exemple small cane of pops.

The problem with that solution is the open armrest door. The other solutions I've seen either take space from the passenger (the seat-side versions) or seem obtrusive or need a long reach (the holder that uses the center console screw in the footwell).

That's why I'm trying to replace the entire armrest cover with the cupholder assembly. The cups should sit into the well, it's right at hand and there's nothing to flip up or get in your way.

Golly, I love a good cupholder thread!

Also: +1bazillion on replacing the ashtray with something more useful. Even a little rubber-lined dish would be an improvement; someplace to throw change...
