I guess next you'll tell me I need rubber pads on my billet door handles. I'm gonna check Target for a cheap plastic cupholder to mount on the side. I don't get too many passengers because of my driving style.

I LOVE cup holder threads! I've already ordered the narrower cup holder from Autobarn ($16). I found the measurements for it on Amazon (11 x 4 x 3.1 inches), so when I get home I'll measure that new armrest door and see how it's going to fit. I have a long trip coming up in a couple weeks (Pittston, PA to Parris Island, SC - 800 miles), so I'm hoping to get this done before then.
Looking at the cassette holder, there's a small lip that runs along the circumference that is a good height for the cup holder. The current plan is to cut off the door and latch at the hinge (it's plastic, so a pair of scissors will do it), and to create an insert out of a stiff material. The insert will be attached (glued?) to the cassette holder and the cup holder will be screwed to the insert.
Further updates (including pics) as events warrant...

Okay, here's how it's looking so far. I've cut a cardboard template for the insert. I'm going to try to find time tomorrow to cut it out of some stiff plastic I have laying around. Then I'll cover the plastic with black vinyl and mount the cup holder over that. The lid door will be cut off.
But, no plan survives first contact with the enemy!

I'm kinda privy to my Brigdeport and manual lathe too..... Can't build one of these without either..... And it's not aluminum
Speaking of aluminum, I was thinking billet armrest insert until we had over 30 days of 100* temps here, Plus I'm just adding billet accents and not going all out.
