Toyo Tires
I need to replace rear tires. I don't track the car...just need some basic decent tires. Has anyone had any bad experiences with Toyo, Nexen or Hankook tires. I am considering these three brands.

Toyo being the oldest available here in the US. Next wouild be Hankook and Nexen being the newest brand in the US...
Which model tire? As Toyo and Hankook offer a variety of tires that fit a 951... My experiecene with both brands has been postive. I am not familar with Nexen.

Sumitomo HTR Z III seems to be a very popular choice in bang for buck. I just put on a set of Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs instead, but I'm sure the differences are negligible. I went with the Star Specs (about $150 more at 17" for my 968) based on their abilities in the wet, now that I'm living in Boston area..

The bridgestone potenza's I just got for the front wheels of my car had the same(maybe better) ratings than the toyo proxies that were on before and were much cheaper. But the only thing I look at is heat range, tread wear and traction, ya know the AA and AAA stuff written on the tire. There may be other things I'm not aware of. Just my two pennies

I decided to go with the Nexen, they are a Korean tire and got decent reviews from what I read....and the price was right. The local tire stores that I called simply did not carry any tires in a 245/45 R16 size....

I have Toyo Proxes4 street tires for my E39 BMW. I like them alot and will be getting another set. Might consider T1R or similar for the 951 when the time comes. My trick however is to find the 245/46 R16 size for the rear of my turbo S.

I don't think you'll go wrong with either the Toyos or the Hankooks.
I'm a Bridgestone person myself. Cars and motorcycles. Never had a bad experience. The people that work here are Firestone know what they're doing and we do a lot of business with them. That being said I can't vouch for them everywhere but it is nice cause you can get road hazard service pretty much anywhere because they're all over.

I have Bridgestone Potenzas RE pole positions; they are good all seasons.
Kuhmo makes decent tires and are inexpensive.. are these to be all season or nice summer tires? (or Snows!???)

i like Toyos, Hankook and Falken tires. We put the Star specs on the dragon for the last race i liked them but we had two blow outs. I guess they didnt like the heat.

http://www.fulda.com/fulda_home_en/ - Fulda is a German company
I recall in the Mid 1980s, folks running Fulda "2000s" I think they were. Very sporting and cheap at the time, plus "low profile".
I've run Toyo RA1 and in the past, some "Proxes 4". imho, the proxy4 is an "old" tire, ie, they came out in the mid 1990s. I would hope there are "newer" designs that are just as good. I also noticed that as mine wore on, they got louder and louder.
