Default 88 944 N/A Vibration

I am waiting on parts to reinstall my head, Once installed I am going to leave the balance belt off to see if that solves the vibration problem i have had. I know some of you run your cars without it, how much more does the car vibrate at low rpms with out that belt?

Also, for the front seals what size puller did you use? or did you take off your radiator fans to get it to fit?

one more thing :P does clarks garage have a guide to removing / installing new front bumper shocks? I looked on the site but found no info.

Thank you

Two things will cause engine vibration:

1. You have installed the belt 180deg out of sync.
2. Worn engine mounts.

Both easy to correct.

+1^
If your vibration is between 900 and 1100rpm and you have checked the upper and lower pulley on the balance belt shafts to make sure they are on correct---it is a worn out set of motor mounts.

Do not go cheap or you will do it over in 6 months. Rein motor mounts or OEM Porsche--nothing else.

If you keep your balance belt off you will possibly ruin your fuel rail with the vibration and cause a fire.

You could also have enough vibration to crack your oil pickup tube and that would seize the engine.

Leave the balance belt on---make sure the rollers are on the balance belt shafts correctly.

It is so easy to get the balance belt off 180deg, you will swear that you have it on correctly but even experienced techs have got it wrong. Read the last paragraph here and double/triple check your setup: http://www.clarks-garage.com/pdf-manual/eng-08.pdf

well i started doing the front seals today, ended up not needing a gear puller for anything ^.^ but the crankshaft key is a bitch to get off >.< The reason the belt broke was the Tentioner roller bearing blew appart. ended up getting a major sunburn on my head and a bit of sunstroke so taking a break for the day might go back in tonight and see how far i can get

The crankshaft key can be easily removed with a pair of wire cutters.

I ended up having to use a cold chisel, if any one else is planning on doing the front seals / water pump I recommend giving this a read

I have seen the video you posted many times. The original author has a couple others on You Tube.

The best is the rebuilding of a destroyed 16 valve cam housing.
Part 1
Part 2

Back to the WP---- I think Vans Videos are great.
