Default KONI inserts -- HELP!!

Hello all,

I just ordered some new adjustable KONI struts for the front of my 951. Through a combination of misunderstanding and several other factors I ended up with some KONI inserts instead of the full front strut. My question is whether I cut up my old KONI front struts and install the inserts? Do KONI inserts work on KONI struts basically, lol. Below is some more information:

The information I have on the original KONI front struts:

1. They're yellow!!!
2. The stamped letters on the body read as follows:

Adjustable
Made By: KONI-HOLLAND
50-85 V5
KN2 951-343-032-02

Newly (accidently) Purchased KONI Inserts:
koni PN: 8641 1414SPORT

What are the general opinions on the inserts? They seem nice, they're easily adjustable. Since my old struts are pretty badly worn and I have an Auto-X I'd like to attend coming up I would love to use these if they'll fit. If the inserts are garbage I'd like to know that too. :/

BTW, I don't know if anyone remembers me posting all kinds of offset requests a few weeks ago. I just got the spacers and the C4 ZR1 wheels with tires mounted. Everything fit awesome. I'll post up my spacer specs, wheels specs and pictures in a couple of days!

Yea. There is plenty of instructions.

Its called the Koni Hacksaw mod. Just search the site; lots of us have done it. In fact my inserts came with instructions.

Basically cut the strut to the proper length and drill a hole in the bottom.

yeah, I've seen the instructions. I just wasn't sure if the inserts would fit the current struts I have, or are the inserts pretty much one size fits all? Thanks for the re-assurance, if I cut the struts I have and the inserts don't fit I'm definitely not going to the auto-x and that would s&*(.

i have a set of turbo koni front struts w/ the spring perches cut off for coilovers that im pulling the inserts from so i can reinstall them in n/a struts. If you are using coilovers you could bolt these right on.

what are the pictures of? The first one looks like a new strut and spring and the second looks like old. Are the descriptions reversed?

The top picture looks like a complete strut just missing the strut top mount.

Those are the correct part numbers. Those KONI inserts will work in your KONI struts. As far as I know the inserts are as good as the original struts they repair.

I have the M474 option on my N/A so I run the same struts. I recently did the conversion and was happy with the results. The ride isn't super composed (is any 944's?), but it is tight and sporty. I just wish I had tighter springs to go along with the sport dampers, I've heard they work better that way. That being said, they are easily adjustable - just pop the hood and turn a **** on the top of the strut.

Unless you're going for a full coilover (KW or the like) setup they will do nicely.

The hacksaw job is quite easy. I did both of mine, excluding paintwork, in about 20 minutes each.

Hey, thanks for the replies.

Sorry about the confusion. My original post is a little confusing. The two pictures are of the original struts, I had just added a ground control coilover conversion in one of the pictures. The damper is the same in both shots except I had cut off the spring perch. What I want to do is take the Koni damper inserts and put them into the shown koni struts. I had originally intended to order new complete struts like what I have on the car now, but ended up with inserts instead. I just wanted to make sure that the koni inserts will work in the koni struts. By the sounds of it they will!

Cheers,

Luke

I know this is a little O.T. but after looking at the Paragon site the Koni Sport front shocks and the Sport Inserts are the same price. What's the advantage of doing the conversion?

I think that they're both inserts. I just talked to Paragon Products and they said that Koni doesn't make the complete sport strut anymore. BTW, I did the conversion and it worked great! Thanks guys!

The Koni 8641-1414Sport inserts will work in both the orig Boge/Sachs housings or Koni housings. There was some confusion with Koni at one point where they said the inserts didn't work on the Koni housing but I can assure you they do.

I can second this by saying the inserts have been working in my OEM M474 strut housings for at least 30K miles or so...
