engine oil temp gauge
I just like to share a few pics of my oil temp gauge fabrication.Everything is from pick&pull gauge, sending unit (from a VW and it`s VDO)and the oil pan plug (944)that I used. The plug is the one on the driver side of the oil pan, which is used on the turbos I think for the oil return from the turbo.Since mine is a non turbo(not yet)I used it for the temp sending unit.Besides that you need a 11/32 drill and a 10mm by 1mm plug tap some wiring, actually one wire only going to the gauge which you can route wherever you want.I still have to do the wiring but till then a few pics.

I`m still thinking about where to mount the gauge.....I need to find a spot where I can mount it with the least a mount modification,i don`t want to cut holes in the dash and stuff like that.
The gauge is out of a VW Golf 1 convertible but you can find it in Golf 1 GTI or Jetta and in Audi 4000,Audi 90.There is also a volt gauge and oil pressure gauge (up to 5bar)that can be used. The sending units are mounted for the oil temp on the housing of the oil filter and the pressure unit is mounted on the back of the cylinder head where the water hoses go.(front timing belt ,rear/back where the water hoses and transmission is )On some of them you can find a oil press gauge that goes up to 10bar.

ohh and few more things:
-white sending unit (If you look at my pics you can see the with plastic on the sensor)is 150 C and so is the gauge too.these are on VW
-black sensor (no pics)is up to 125 C,this is used for the water temp gauge on VW
-blue sensor (no pics)is up to 180 C,this is used for oil temp and can be found on the Audis I mentioned above.these have different temp gauges which go up to 170 C
If somebody wants more pics with the other gauges feel free to ask.

I chose to buy a new temp sender, the 1/8" npt size that fits in the drain plug, but I did get my gauge from a mk I VW as well. Good ol' VWs... giving parts to Porsches since 1948!
