Need new exhaust. Some advice.
My cat-back flange broke for the last time, and I need a new exhaust system.
I wanted a borla system, I usually see them up for sale on here now and then for probably less than I paid for that trash Midas...
But anyway... My car doesn't NEED to pass emissions anymore, and I was wondering if going without a cat is worth it.
I don't race or anything, my big concern is that it will sound like trash without the catalytic converter on it.
Also without the cat I get about 5% more HP right? Give or take? Not that big of a deal, just wondering.
Thanks for any advice.

No muffler can tame it huh?
It's pretty loud as it is.... lol
I guess I should ask what would you do if you needed a new cat back but didn't need to have a cat anymore?

I removed the cat and fitted a Hushpower HP2 pre-muffler. Great sound and you will notice the difference in power. The are available from Summit Racing in 2, 2-1/4, 2-1/2, they are stainless, they fit perfectly in the cat location and they are under $150.

With the stock muffler in place, you NEED to put something in the place of the cat. The problem is resonance and the thing will almost stall from it at 3200 rpm if you do not put something in the place of the cat. I tried it and found this out. I also did some math that proved it - MAGK944 has the right idea - there are other solutions, especially it you do not need emissions.

ok, with the cat now gone,
1. test pipe into a single SLP loudmouth hollow chamber resonator from summit or jegs. 2.5"/4"/2.5"
2. then a magnaflow 18" X 5" X 9" 2.5" in/out, center/offset.
the car will not be too loud.
the car will sound very exotic.
exhaust will be very light but still supress the vibrations of your big 4 very well.
the car will make about 12 more horsepowers.

Check out LindseyRacing.com They have all sorts of stuff you may like. I have the 4" exhaust system. After all current mods are done 350rwhp is what I expect.

Where should I get all the piping if I went this route? I hated the terrible job Midas did custom bending. It didn't quite fit right around the sway bar, and the bends made by their machine look awful.
Maybe I'm just picky?

check out burnsstainless.com for the tubing - they sell 90 degree mandrel bent stainless tubes as well as straight tubing, so if you have a welder, you could get that, cut for the correct angles, and weld it up. If you want to get adventurous and make new headers, they also sell VERY nice 4-1 collectors
