Default Pre 85.5 trailing arms have bump stops?

As title states, was wondering if the steel early trailing arms had bumps stops like the old VW's?

On the hardest launches the rear end squats like a dog shot in the *** with rock-salt. A local 951 that I've ridden in has bump-stops on the alloy trailing arms that he put there himself and said he had to hack into the arm to get the mod done. I've come up with my own bolt-on solution that I'm installing before I go to a taller profile tire. If the early steel arms had the protrusions for the rubber stops, I wonder why the late trailing arms were made without them.

on the 924 the bump stops were on the body right above the trailing arm.

Damn interesting why Porsche added drivetrain power and got rid of them on the alloy arms unless they thought bigger torsion bars would keep them from bottoming out.....No cigar with the V8 installed. I'm not even lowered and have wheel well marks far up from the hard launches.

Here's my solution....

30mm t-bars + coilovers looks like a solution to me. N/A t-bars are super soft, when i had the shocks off mine i could make it bounce from top to bottom with 2 fingers.

Yes they do. We 944 spec racers remove them otherwise you can hit them when on track.

Hey Thanks for the pic. It makes me wonder what the Early arm travel/bottom out distance is compared to the later cars with alloy arms. I'm going to install these Prothane ones with the billet studs this weekend and see if it helps with the dead stop hard launches.

The arm have the same geometry early and late. With a lowered 944 spec car even with 30 mm t-bars you can hit the bump stops during cornering. That really upsets the car Remove them and you don't hit anything unless you go off track. I have a few marks on where the aluminum arm hit the chassis, but it is rare. I have raced my 84 944 with aluminum rear arms using 30 mm t-bars since 2003 so that is lot of years and more than few off track excursions.

Dead stop hard launches? Seems like a nice way to break stuff. Oh when the car hits the bump stop you lose rear grip due to super high spring rate. Seems to me you wil f-up the car by doing this.

These Prothane stops are softer than the average 60A durometer polyurethane and have an inner air chamber, so they should have a better cushion than just solid rubber stops, we'll see soon.
