Default so I painted some 15" phone dials yesterday and...

they turned out better than I thought they would. I think they really fit the car now even though they are just 15" phone dials. I used some duplicolor and some rustoleum spray paint along with some model paint for the center caps. I covered everything in two coats of clear once I was done. I used blue painters tape to do the two colors.

here is how they looked before paint (these pictures are pretty old) The may look ok from the pictures but the were yellowing and the paint was chipping off and they just looked dirty.

Here is how they look now. I love the color and the 80's style wheel design!

Nice job, they look good!

You can/did get great results with spray paint. It's all about prepping and finishing... I have Spray Painted 2 set of Rims, and Several motorcycles in the last 4 years, and all of them looked amazing. People under estimate the spray paint...

it has n/a brakes. This is the chassis swap I did. Everything is from a 944S besides the body!

oh, and I removed the turbo badge, but I might put it back on since some of the paint came off with it and it looks bad.

Nice, how did you prep the wheels for paint? Just a lot of sanding?

They look really good.

sanded the bad parts and did a light sand on everything else. I used a filler primer that I later sanded until smooth with 1000 grit sand paper. I painted the outer lip with the light silver paint using 2 coats, waited a couple hours, put tape over the silver and painted the dark graphite color with 1 light coat and 1 heavy. After that, I used two coats or clear.

The center caps were painted the dark graphite color first then I used the gold, red, and black paint. Some of the black on the center caps was color with a black sharpie because I didn't have a good small brush. I covered the center caps in 2 coats of clear also. Preparation is the key to getting a good and smooth paint job. I could clay bar and wax the wheels to get them perfect. I did have a few problems with the outer lip paint. I didn't wait long enough fro it to dry or there was something on the wheel that I didn't get off before painting because when I removed the blue painters tape, some of the paint came off. Anyways, they look much better than before.

Good job dillon410021!

With warmer weather here it's time to open the idea box again.

What would be some of the things I'd need to paint my wheels. Also, what is the best type of paint to use on wheels?
