that's beautiful work. not exactly inexpensive. these $15 k swaps are a great idea, but i think people underestimate the total for all the parts you'll eventually buy including improving the engine. my problem is that the last 100 horspowers are costing thousands. i found what appears to be good engine at my local salvage yard for less than $ 1K. it was tempting...

i've never driven a car with a new engine in my life. so.

Lol your talking about a lot of money to invest in an early 944 ,figures quote here are $10-15-20k,for that price you can get yourself a pretty darn nice 951/S2 or 968 with everyone of them having over 200 HP.But if you really want to go into the trouble of a swap why not opt for the 944/968 one which even though not cheap won't cost you your eyes ***** . 944/968 is a natural swap for your early car and has been done by many here & other forums with success.Don't forget the 3.0 ltr 968 produce 236 HP (stock) and has plenty of torque from 1,000 RPM to the red line & torque is what make a car fast not necessarely HP.reminding you that you still will have to ugrade the suspension & diff since your producing quiet a bite more HP.You will be as fast or even faster then any 968/951 (stock) out there since your car is a lot ligther.

not to mention run for about as long as your average cummins diesel, (vibrate, and sound almost as bad), and eventually, it might seem as though virtually every nut, screw and bolt on the car has been pried loose....

Allan just because your into a LS swap up to your neck doesn't mean that other swap don't work as good, and if your 968 motor (vibrate-sound bad & your losing nuts/screw & bolts ) why have you been trying to sell it here for the last couple of months praising it as one of the best motor out there, sorry to be blunt but my 968 motor don't vibrate,it sound good & I didn't loose any nut ,bolts or screw yet so get down back to earth man.________ Camsti go to (Search) enter 944/968 swap for more infos on it.

naw, i was just messin. i was slow in coming around to using the right muffler for running straight pipes.
so, i like my motor again ever since installing the larger 22 inch magnaflow. the noise and vibrations are back under control... the 3.0 should be going into it's new home sometime in august.

why i thought i'd try a bigger LS engine. bored, insecure, attention *****. also, a few more things....

what about driving a nimble car that feels pretty good? but, also has....

1. effortless, quiet acceleration to 45 mph and beyond...

2. super low rpm on the highway but plenty of torque in the mid-rpm range for inclines when downshifting into the .730 5th gear.

3. it;s a fast car with a wide performance range through the top 3 gears.

4. can go shockingly fast from 65-150 mph.

5. has more top end... (maybe) discover the car's drivability up there.

6. add one more to the fleet of cars that is superior to the '911' thanks to a good engine.

7. i think of the donor car as if it were a "kit" that you just decide what you'll add on to. you can end up a good daily drivable car that appears as if it were a production car and then have long intervals between major service if you drive it decent.

not very well. been working long days the past 2 weeks 1,150 miles from home, and i need power tools to grind down the excess bonding resin. it's on there really stong, but everything's looking quite fugly at the moment.

i found this nice article that shows i did pretty good so far. surprised to learn that to get the best adhesion possible, you should use your bonding resin within about 1 hour of roughing up the surface, drilling dimples, etc....

http://www.autobodysupply.net/articles.asp?id=135

i used the Devcon and saved money. now i need to locate the right bumper finishing putty that can be sanded smooth, but also can expand and contract without cracking, bend slightly, and also hold the paint.

any autobody guys around today?

Your probably looking at something between $5 to $8K if you shop around for the rigth motor/tranny all all misc parts that goes into such a swap.

I like the breakdown that odurandina made

very nicely done - and show exactly where the money goes

biggest cost is going to be exhaust, transmission, engine - what you can find - what you can do yourself - will help you cut down the cost A LOT

as well as the time-frame

the basic kit, clutch etc are very much constant

remember that with early cars you will have to upgrade brakes/wheels/tires too

also from what I have read, when I considered this swap, T-56 is a bad idea in 944's because of their size etc

figure, you can buy a good used, turbo/S2 LSD gear box in $2k; and you can buy a NICE used, midly modded LS1 for another $3k ... so you don't have to get everything BRAND NEW - and this will cut down the cost for you a lot - one way to keep the cost in $10k range

Hey Lowside, I designed a set of adapters for the E36 to mount Wilwoods and E46 rotors for an LS swapped E36. Are you running ABS? Nice build BTW.
As for the V8 swaps, the most important thing is the front brakes being adequate and Roman's right, the Early 944 single piston calps are NOT adequate.
