Daily driver and race car don't mix... 
My 944 spec is not street legal, but is just a few mods away. Still I have no desire to drive it on the street. Too loud, too rough, no a/c, no heat.... why bother.
The real value in cheap 944 is the track and giving up all hope of comfortable street driving. If you do that you can have a cheap track car. If you want it comfortable on the street it will either suck as a track car or be very expensive to manage both.

. I think it'll be fine for street driving and the occasional track day as I've never done anything more than autocross
