944 turbo steering rack installation time???
Has anyone had a steering rack installed lately? I was wondering how many hours labor shops are charging as I don't feel like laying on my garage floor for a few hours with my bad back.

if the bolts are clean and you have enough working space under the car, maybe 2 hours if you take your time...the rack has 4 bolts that hold it on, plus one pinch bolt to the U-joint shaft, then the tierods attach which is straightforward enough...plus assorted PS lines which is easy enough.
its a big help to chase the holes in the crossmember with a tap to get any dirt etc out, makes the bolts go in much easier
get the rack lined up with the crossmember holes, but attach the pinch bolt first, then bolt it to the crossmember.

Getting the steering shaft off of the rack after the pinch bolt is removed can be a pain. Drop the rack down first so you have a little more room. There is a shield above the pinch bolt that gives my large hands a workout trying to get off. It held on by two small bolts but it is hard to get to your hand/wrench on the bolts. Count the turn on the tie rod end and put the new one on the same number of turns. Then, get it aligned correctly. Good luck.

Just did mine a few weeks ago and about 3 hours and that included new rob ends.
A lot of yelling, cursing and some blood getting that pinch bolt out and back in place.

The sending unit? It just take a 24mm or 15/15 wrench. It is a bit tight in there with a wrench, so it helps to drop that side of the sway bar out of the way. I think the electrical connectors are a 7mm and 8mm nut. Maybe take an hour or so.
