Default 944 Transmission oil Question?

Hi again everybody,

I went to the garage last friday and had a chance to look under the car doing an engine oil change. My mechanic noticed thin lines of spray on top of the cv joint/transmission joint. He told me I needed to change my seals. So I lifted rear the car this weekend at home to check if the level of the oil transmission was ok.
When I unscrewed the fill plug (yes, the plug on the left side on top with a 17mm allen head), fluid was pouring out? Not heavy flow. So I putted the fill plug back in immediately, I lost maybe 1 once on oil. I didn't drive car for 5-10 min to warm up the transmission fluid.

So I guess it's more than Ok? or bad? How can it be that theres more oil in a transmission. My older mechanic did a change last year with the MT-90 from Redline. I was there the entire time. And he put exactly the same amount as on Clarks Gargage (2.75 quarts). I know, I bought the oil for him. I bought 3 quarts, he gave me back 1/4 of a quart.

Then, checking around, I notice that 1 bolt on top of the cv joint connecting the transmission was only bolted half way? And the 2 others on each side of it where super loose? Could that have cause the little line of fluid spray on top the cv joint/transmission joint?

thanks

Is the line of "spray" simply grease that got slung up on the underside of the fuel tank?

Tighten the bolts and check all others while there.

Like Tim said tighten the bolts & you should be ok ,your car is now 25 years old so there is bond to be a little oil here & there. If oil pour out when you remove the upper plug you didn't loose any.

Exactly what it looks like. On both sides, more on the right side than the left.

Exactly what it says on ClarksGarage....

''Raise the rear of the car on jack stands or ramps. I prefer jack stands as they give more room to work around the transaxle.''

http://www.clarks-garage.com/

- Garage shop manual
- Changing Manual Transaxle Fluid

Do you think the car as to be level?

Listen ,if the last time the oil was change, and someone fill her up rigth to the brim (until oil will come out of the plug) if you jack the rear let say 3' & remove that plug where do you think that oil is gone to go, I've change tranny oil at least 4 time during my 944 ownership & once on my 968 ,everytime using a hoist with the car level & never once did the oil came pouring out when we remove the top plug. The way I see it, is with those car & the location off the fill plug you need a hoist to do it rigth.

You will need a 8mm 3 square type driver to tighten the CV joint bolts.

Vim Products XZN BIT DRIVER SET 9PC 4-18MM TRIPLE SQUARE SPLINE

Buy the set, you will need a 12mm to remove the flywheel if ever needed

By a can, you mean a quart or a gallon? I live near blainville and I buy my oil at PerryAuto in Laval. If your deal is for a 16$ quart, I don't think its worth for me to drive to Montreal for save 8$ : ) But for a gallon, thats another story.
Please pm me.
thanks
