Default Has anyone run into this - Brakes

88 951 - Changed out the rear rotors, new pads, bled the brakes. All good, till I tried to back out of the garage. Acts like the rears are locked up or very tight.

Pulled everything back off and checked everything again, the only thing I do noticed is it looks like the pads are thicker than I remember new ones being. Anyone know the thickness of what a new pad should be?

Did you check your parking brake or re-adjust them? The old rotors might have been worn from the parking brake dragging at some point and now the shoes are tight. I'm always amazed how thick new pads are on a 951. Another thing it could be the caliper pistons have been sort of frozen to a set return position that sits a bit outside for brand new pads and rotors. I've always had to push them in as far as they will go just to install new pads and rotors.

Do not know what the allowable thickness is.
If you jack the rear of the car up, are both wheels locked?
Did the parking brake cable and brake shoes release?

I pulled the calipers and pushed the pistons in all the way. Going to run out and double check the parking brake..

Well if your brakes are locking up you shouldn't be running into anything at all!

When you pulled the calipers to replace the rotors were there spacer washers between the caliper and control arm mounting ears? I know my ‘89T has them and I would find it difficult to assemble without them in place… just a thought.

yup- if the washers are not in there you cannot turn the wheels.

Thank you for all the advise.. found it.

The spacer washer was not there. Guess I dropped it while putting everything back together. Working like a charm now.
