^ Ok let figure out some cost of doing such a conversation ,the number given won't be accurate but just a general idea -early decent 944/ $3k -968 motor $4k-coversation cost minimum $2k-Carl's SC $5K =$14K doesn,t make sense. For that amount of money you could get yourselve a pristine 951-S2 or a very well sorte out 968.But if you keep thing simple & forget the super charger let say $9k for a well done 944/968 transplant I'll say go for it this will be your best bang for the bucks.

Here's your Turbo upgrade right here, this is all you need. An upgrade like this can be done in a weekend!!!! (in my best Ace Ventura voice)

Or you could step up your game and do this

but my point is that poeple make a big fuss about picking up turbo engines and parts when there's a boatload of 968 engines out there that can go like 250 K miles. the engines might outlive the drivers.
favorites in descending order;
1. larger displacement LS2, 3.
2. normal LS1 V8
3. 968 engine w/ turbo or supercharger.
4. 968 engine.
5. 944 Turbo engine.

OK, I will say these things again...
1) If I wanted an american V8 powered car, I would have bought one... I didn't and still dont, highly doubt I ever will.. although thanks for trying desperately to drag this thread off into a swap discussion..
2) OD, I have difficulty following your posts WITHOUT looking at your avatar, your avatar makes following you that much more difficult...
Additionally, OD, as much as I do admire your zeal for posting your oppinion, I don't believe any of your top 5 are in my car now, nor will ever be in my car, however I wont rull out 3, 4, or 5 some time down the road...

Barnaby.
you might have misunderstood the intent behind my posts. i was never trying to make this a discussion about V8 swaps. nor was i trying to convince you to pick up a V8 for your car. not in the slightest. we've had 200 discussions about V8 vs/ Turbo vs non aspirated and so on... the exchanges are usually a lot of fun and people enjoy them. here's two of the best supercar-build threads which offer a lot of perspectives from seasoned racers and addicts....

944 V8 swap projects have been around for about 20 years. sure, every now and again we get the odd discussion about purist "staying all Porsche" vs going to the larger displacement V8s. one of the reasons this came about is due to the 928 engines being much too large for the 944/968 engine bays.
a lot of the reason people dislike the V8s and all that surrounds the whole American Musclecar culture has a lot to do with poorly chosen exhuasts, (like the ******** that drive all the loud pickups), as it takes a good set of pipes to make a pushrod V8 truly sing.... but a well-designed/constructed single exhaust can be made to sound really good, not to mention how one of these car drives.
finally here's a post from of the most respected P-car guys around has to say. this guy was featured in the "Porsche Family" documentary a couple of years ago to celebrate the unveiling of the Panamera, he races his 944 on the California Motor Speedway and basically, blows away all the other supercars on the track....
You'll love the LS1. In fact, the first time you drive the car you'll wish you had done the conversion long long ago....
The deal is that it's not an apples-to-apples comparison with respect to cost. The LSx engine makes a LOT more power and has a substantially wider area "under the curve" than any turbo 4 engine. Thus the car, even at the same peak HP level, becomes much faster. (yes... I know you can get a lot of power out of a 951 engine... but you can get a LOT more power out of a LSx engine. And it's more reliable in the process at any given power level...)
So yeah the LSx engine is less expensive than the 951 engine... but the deal is that it's more powerful (apples to apples... )l, has a wider powerband, and is far more reliable.
And honestly... it's awesome to drive.
Good luck luck with your conversion.

with that, said what i do suggest instead of going turbo is a 968 engine. as others have also chimed in, it would be a killer mod that will neither break the bank is a platform that requires only a minimum of shop time to keep running.
there's also a video i've been searching for to post.![rockon](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/rockon.gif)

1/2 of 944 feeling is in its large 4 pot.
