Does look promising... wonder which would fail first, the motor or the turbo?

So, how long do I have to wait, and what should I be watching?

I'm pretty sure they have a write-up of what happened on his site. The whole purpose was to see how long it would take to run the car into the ground and I think it took something like 9 months, but the pics and everything should be up at roguetuning.com if anyone wants to know about the results.

Just be patient... Make sure the rest of your car is well sorted out, seal up any leaks, get everything else in tip top shape, and in time there may be a solution for this...

Only issues with that are 1) E85.. scarce supply in SOME areas of the country.. 2) Knock monitoring... but that is pretty easy to overcome...

Hi Barnaby, is that a real photo of you? You look cool, like a real superhero. You seem awesome - so I'll give you the best advice.

It's easy to turbo your NA, so don't let these fools get to you. Just buy the biggest turbo you can afford, and plumb it in yourself. Can't be that hard, eh?

Exhaust goes in one side, air out the other. I think. Could be the other way around. But you get the drift... sure you know all that already.

Then you need to keep the whole thing cool. Most people use an intercooler. But, most cars have air conditioning, right? Build a home-made evaporator around one of the intake tubes and you should be able to drop intake temps enough to run with the bitchin' uber-turbine you just bought.

Of course, if you wanted to reduce the chance of detonation further you could add an extra window washer in your nozzle - then if you hear the engine starting to knock you just pull the window washer lever and - wham! instant water injection. Add methanol to your washer bottle for added benefit. But don't smoke while you're doing it or you may burn off your eyebrows. Chicks don't dig dudes without eyebrows. Apart from freaky goth chicks, but I guess they'll probably do anything in the sack. So go for it.

The exhaust manifold is a serious issue. The "factory" thought it was a good idea to put the turbo on the intake side! I mean, why would they!? You'll need an intake manifold built to keep the turbo at a distance - and lower intake and block temperatures. There's plenty of room up front behind the bumper. Just in front of the radiator. Go for a 4-1 header to maximise the energy given to spooling your new beast.

Of course, to get the car going as fast as possible you'll need to lighten it too. That's another topic entirely though. For example, you'll need to go on a special diet to be a real porsche driver. No excess kerb weight allowed here buster! You'll find posts on the special diet elsewhere - just use the search feature.

You don't need to make any mods to the NA 944 engine to handle a turbo - the only thing you'll need to do is to maximise the cooling effectiveness by adding rock salt to regular plain coolant. A handful is about right. After this, run the engine in by keeping at 5000rpm for 10 minutes. Then let the car cool and do a regular oil change - you'll be good to go.

The most important thing to remember is to have fun.

This is a little too big, you need to make sure that you don't get too much "turbo lag" -

But try a couple of these - one for each cylinder maybe?

That being said - you'll get the best power from the bigger hairdryer.

You know what they say...
