There is a large vacuum hose that plugs into the bottom of the Intake J-Boot... If this is not plugged in -->the engine will do exactly what you described... (Had this happen several times after working on my car)

A simply check for starters

That's a great way to **** off the guy you're buying it from.

germantrader10.....if it's off, do the deal FIRST, then put the hose back on and start it.

First thing CHECK timing -balance shafts belts ASP,if those break while attempting to start & run the car you can ruin the head. All you have to do is remove the front belts cover off & check if the belts are ok.This is what you'll be looking at once the cover is remove. If you have any doubt about those belts condition do not start or run the car before replacing them.

could it really be as simple as the vacuum hose? I just spoke to the owner again he said the belt is okay ?!?! but it only starts with starter fluid.

Oh...that's different that what you first said.

No, you will be towing that home.

Bad fuel, bad fuel pump, bad FPR, bad hoses, bad injectors and a host of other things can cause that.

Just get it home to where you can work on it and start working through the issues (is there fuel at the rail? Is the pressure OK? etc. etc.).

Us idiots will be here to help.

First..welcome

Second....Ditto to all the above.....

Sounds like a fuel delivery issue to me as well.

Bookmark this site, clark's garage, 944online, peligan etc. I know one of these sites has a 944 issues checklist on it somewhere. The guys here are very good, just take it one step at a time and check the simple stuff first. Disreguard the 'check the flux capacitor' suggestions.

Show up with assorted fuses too. It could be that simple. Depends on what the PO knows/cared to try.

It is a well know fact that the flux capacitors in these cars will long outlast the cars themselves and never need to be maintained, much less be wrenched on by home-garage amateurs such as ourselves. Muffler bearings need to be replaced regularly though.

I took me forever to change those on my last car. I dont know why i didnt think of that either. it could just be the washer fluid pump causing all this . I heard its a common problem.
