Default Has your Turbo Trans given you any problem? (Post in this thread)

I tried to make a thread like this before and didn't get that much action.

I am trying to see what some commons issues with the 944 turbo trans are. I believe some bearings are going. Trans has supposedly 60,000 miles on it. Leaks oil as well. Quite a bit actually. Could have been run low on oil for a while.

Info to include would be: Year, Mileage, What issue its having/had? and also what kind of noises it made.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

Mine hasn't blown up yet but it makes an awful whine on accel or decel. 86 Turbo, stock, TMU (broken odo when I got it) but believed to be about 87k based on Carfax reporting.

Mine whines when coasting in low gears but I think it's mostly because my PO put in a Fidanza flywheel. Otherwise, the trans is tight and responsive, no leaks. My car has about 94k.

I have been through a few and fixed a few for others as well. I have proken the R&P once blown one open diff and repaired one messed up gear set from a high speed missed gear by a track guy.

What is it about the fidanza that makes you suspect it's causing the whine?

Flywheels won't whine. They chatter some at idle, that's about it.

i broke second gear i think from power shifting and going sidways. i have a solid mount so i hear every little noise that the trans, engine, tt and so on make.

3rd gear syncro (I hope) causes slight scratch going into 3rd. 130,000 miles on car. I assume original trans, 1987 951.

Second gear synchro is bad in mine, but it has 254000 miles on it (not sure that is 100% accurate though as I have no documentation on it prior to my ownership). Other than that, it is just a little difficult to get in reverse when it is cold out, but that may b e resolved by changing the oil.

Just curious if it made any weird noises before it let go?

Actually, my fidanza is dead silent at idle as well. I'm just curious what made choinga think a flywheel on the motor at the front of the car would cause whine from the tranny at the back of the car. Didn't make any sense to me at all.

Yeah, it was whining a little bit before it busted and then it got a little louder before it finally busted, but a couple days before that it wouldn't go into 4th or 5th gear. Don't know if the issues were related as I had just gotten the car a few days before.
