Default noise

I hear this ticking like noise in the morning when I turn the key.Pop the hood and sounds like it comeing from the passengers side.its a round lease with a cable attached to it.it goes away and then come back for a minute @ idle...thanks for the answers in advance...Have a great day....1985 944

Could be a bad valve lifter. Not sure what you mean by this:

When I turn the key without starting the motor I hear it...like a clicking-ticking noise coming from a round brass peace that has a cable going to it...ill see if I can post a picture....thanks
