Default Opinions about adding rear sway bar to 924S

Recently I picked up a 1987 924S, and I've noticed that it does not have a rear sway bar.

I can't say that I'm ready to go all out with the suspension ("all out" to me means new springs, new torsion bars, new front sway bar, etc.). However, I did pick up a set of Koni yellow shocks and struts. That was before I realized there's no rear bar.

Looks to me like factory options are a 14mm or a 20mm bar???

I'm inclined to just look for a used 14mm bar (and the necessary links/hardware), but I'm open to other advice.

unless you can find a stock bar cheap i would just go with the 968 MO30 sway bars front and rear. there is no reason to spend money on an intermediate step if you eventually plan on going "all out"

i also wouldnt fool around with factory drop links. the kla ones are cheap (and better)

was your 924s blessed with the rear mounts? mine was, but i hear not all were.

The 924S doesn't need the 968 M030 stuff. You can find 24mm front bars for dirt cheap (stock '86 Turbo) and also the 14mm rear bars for cheap. In fact I have a 14mm complete setup I don't need.

The 20mm bar is NLA

nothing in this forum is about a "need"

stock turbo bars would suit the 924 very well (as long as they are matched front to rear)

I have stock 951 (25.6 fr/18mm rr) with racers edge delrin front inners, eurothane front outer bushings. The rear has weltmeister inner eurothane (911 application fits perfect) and spherical droplinks which made the most difference. With the steel front control arms, you may run into limitations the bigger you go on the front. I find the lighter 924S responds well to "off the shelf" 951 components. The stock springs are relatively light in the 24S and the Konis may be to much shock, so a nice balanced shock/spring combo (read stock 951, not necessarily M030) with modest sway bars and bushings work well on the 924S and are cheap to source as 951s shed their stock suspension on a daily basis. It's part of the fun of a 924S...stock 44/51 suspension is a nice upgrade.
My 924S is a sunroof delete with only power windows and AM/FM cassette radio being the only options (not weighted down) so my modest upgrades are quite responsive.
I just need to get the motor back in it...5 speed weather is upon us.
Good luck and welcome to the addiction...love the Boxster. Really, I love me some Boxster. Are you familiar with the BRBS (blue ridge Boxster summit)? They gather less than a mile from my house this year and it's always a HUGE turnout. Same weekend as the epic SITM (sharks in the mountains) 928 gathering just a few more miles down the parkway. Lots of P-cars in our sleepy little area that weekend.

if you need bars, i have a stock 968 rear bar (16mm) and a full set of turbo bars from an 87. let me know if you're interested, either way, good luck!

Thanks! I have not checked my end play but all else is well. I just picked up my first one of two fixed back seats. I can't wait to get it in.

Suppose I did the following:

Koni yellow
951 coil springs (should these be plug/play into my struts?)
951 front sway bar
951 rear sway bar

Reasonable?

Would that necessitate changing my torsion bars, or could I live with the stock torsion bars?

On what I believe are called the torsion bar tubes there are mounting points for the rear sway bar. I would just need to have the U-shaped brackets and bushings.

Perfect. Some cars require welding the mount on. You will also need new ecentric bolts to mount the drop links. Paragon products set me up when I added/upgraded my bars.
