Default Coolant Explosion!

I took my 951 out for a little drive last night, didn't drive her too hard or anything... Pulled into parking spot, kill the engine, and WHOOSH! coolant started rushing out of my engine. It is completely drained.
I'm an automotive student right now, but I have little engine experience.
I've tried finding other threads but I couldn't find anything like what I wanted.
Where do you think it is leaking? Is this common? How time consuming of a job is it?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a coolant hose popped off.

That definately what it seemed like, but what seemed wierd was how it started rushing out the second I killed the engine. If a coolant hose popped off wouldn't it have been leaking while driving?

When you shut down the engine, the heat remaining in the engine raises the temp/pressure of the coolant. I doubt it rose within seconds of you turning it off, I think you just dodged a bullet that it didn't blow on the road.

You might check the hose out of the WP to see if it rubbed on the PS pulley.

you will have to pop the hood and see where the coolent came out of. Like others have said when you shut the engine off the pressure can build and it is possable it caused a weak point to fail.

Throw up some pictures of the leak area if you can.

Fill coolant bleed system. Use coolant pressure tester to see if you have any leaks. (I pressurize the system from approx. 10 to 12lbs for the test). If no leaks are found then change your coolant pressure cap on the coolant resevoir. They are about 5 bucks at autozone. Test drive

I had the same exact thing happen to me... I bet it is your Resevoir Cap

*The Rubber seal goes bad and the coolant gets forced out the top of the resevoir; of course when you looked in the Engine Bay where did the coolant appear to be coming from? Something should have been soaked...

Why did you not look and see where the coolant was coming from? That might make this easier.

The cap might have failed but that usually causes a trickle of coolant. The heater valve is better at causing a big explosive drain. On a turbo there are other lines that might fail bigtime too.

A peek under the hood might be in order.

looked under the hood today cap is fine, but I could not find the source of the leak! I am going to get it up on the rack tomorrow at school and try to take a look from the bottom and go from there...

I had a post about something similar to this. I was driving through town, it was a fairly hot day and when I pulled up I could hear coolant leaking. Popped the hood and it was literally pouring out - I lost a lot of fluid before it finally stopped.

Turned out the fan had stopped working and the engine had started to overheat just at the point when I stopped driving. The water was pouring out of the overflow pipe on the header tank.

The fan needed a new thermo switch on the radiator... I had to drive some 250 miles the next day though so I wired in a manual on/off switch for the fan onto the centre console. Worked a treat! Some time later the thermo switch just started working again. Which reminds me, I never did replace that switch...

You can't tell if the coolant cap is good by looking at it.

+1. go to auto zone, get a pressure tester, and make sure it has the cap attachment. THAT will tell you if the cap is good.

When I test drove my 951 it did a simular thing... I test drove the car and parked it and the second I got out all the coolant was drained out of the sucker. Turned out to be the lower radiator hose popped off... lol made the guy fix it and took 200 of the price tag

It's possible that as soon as the engine turns off, water pressure suddenly changes and can cause a hose to pop off if it is loose.

Now why would he do that? He's an automotive student. He might mess up his manicure or [gasp] break a nail.
