Tire recommendations
I just picked up some 7 slot wheels (chrome manhole covers, I know, ugly) and I'm interested in what people like for tires. I have 7x16 fronts and 8x16s for the rear. It's not a really a daily driver, but I will be doing autocross, LSR and even a few runs on the drag strip.
I'll probably end up with 225 50s on the front and 245 50s on the rear. Do these sizes sound right for an '87 NA?
I saw a chart that said I need 52mm spacers for the rear, but what about the front?
What brands do you like? Any I should avoid? Can't afford $300 tires, so I'm looking for a good deal too.
Thanks,
Dave Cover

JMHO, but I would keep the same size tires F&R. There is no reason to go wider on the rear in an NA car (or a stock turbo car). You're in no danger of spinning the rear tires. Also, I think it handles better as it takes away some of the understeer by letting the rear end come around a little easier when turning.

If you're going to be doing autocross and you want something that's not too expensive check out Falken Azenis RT-615K.

That's what I'm using to put down faster times than most 911's at my local PCA events.

No need for spacers fo these wheels...your car is late offset and the wheels are late offset.
Regarding the tires...what are you after - all season traction, high performance for the summer or track applications?

If you want to step up look into Nitto NT-01 and Toyo RA-1.
I run them both on the track.

It is electric and I will be drag racing the same weekend as the auto crossing, but the drag racing is more important. Look up NEDRA if you want to see what electrics are doing. If I can get my battery pack up where I want it, torque and traction will be a "problem." I have a little old school muscle car in my blood, so I like the look of a wider rear tire. Right now it's not a daily driver, but it is a street legal ride that I drive around town on weekends. It's in the garage for the winter.
I'm also doing some land speed racing in Maine this summer, my next target is to license up to 135. Loring Timing Association is running races at an old air force base, I was the only electric last year. You are limited by your equipment, so I'll be mounting Z rated tires. You gotta dream. Bring your rides up and see how you do. If you're in the northeast, it's a lot closer than Bonneville.

i loved my falken rt615's they were awsome- run at a higher temp range than most- they like 40lbs hot on the track. Way faster than i would have thought, passing people in corners that have hoosiers and such.

Well if you want wider rear tires, you can use 225/245 like you wanted, or 205/225. It depends what tire you want. 245/45R16 tires are basically limited to R compounds.
But you can get almost all of the high performance street tires in 205/225 combo. If you want a fast autocross tire get the RE11 or star spec.

Hey Rudeboy42
The auto crossing I've done has been in Maryland with some other racing sponsored by a (NEDRA) club down there. I haven't done any locally but would like to. I am a rank amateur though. I've heard of some in the Hartford area, is that where you race? Let me know what's around and I'll try and make it. Right now I'm getting ready for some races the last weekend in April, but these are just on the drag strip, no autocross. That's why I posted the original question about tires. Now that I have my wheels, tires are next.
