FWIW, I have been running non-boosted brakes since '07 on the track and don't have any problem locking up the wheels if I'm a little over exuberant with the middle pedal. I would try without the booster first and see how things feel. You can always add a booster later. As to choice of booster, I would go with the electric booster. See Tony Garcia's set up. He posts here from time to time. It is a much cleaner set up and does not require the power steering pump and attendant hoses, cooler, etc.

Tony is running a hydroboosted setup. So it has the power steering lines, cooler, etc.

The Dual MC's give alot better modulation and I can lock them up, just not as fast as a boosted set-up, which I actually like.

this was a tough winter. imagine how many 5.3 motors are out there sitting in bent up pickups you can get cheap.

My mistake. I could have sworn when we were all posting on the 944hybrid board that he went with the electric boost version.

chop, do you know where i could find the type of place that pulls these v8's from crashed trucks etc? none of the boneyards out here carry much of anything newer than the mid 90s.

Any salvage yard that has a chevy truck LOL.....Any 99-up chevy truck, but get an 02-04 because GM fixed the piston slap and still had drive by cable. The Throttle body bolts right to the LS intake too..... I got my PCM for $29 off ebay and got a wire harness and programming from SSP for $300

Robert, Spencer and friends....

just decided to call around back to the salvage yards in Mass. sure enough a few wrecked trucks w/ 5.3's. one at Millis Used auto with 112 k miles for $550.00, for a full turnkey. a quick rebuild, w/ 0.010 hone, add a cam and you'd have a pretty good motor.

I've got another perfect 5.3 block and put in 4.8l pistons (flat-top).....less than $350 and will pump out LS3 power when I'm done putting on the Z06 heads and cam. and LS6 intake. The only real expense will be long-tubes...
