kevlar timing belt noise?

kevlar timing belt noise?
i had replaced my timing belt and all pulleys a year ago. ever since then it has been making a "whining" noise. reminds me of a supercharger noise. i have checked tension on the belts, the pulleys and anything else i could think of. do any of you have any clue what i can do to fix this?
i am beginning to think the noise could be because its a Kevlar belt? does anyone else have this issue?

It's the balance shaft belt.. they're just noisy even when tensioned properly. I had the same issue, asked around and this is pretty much normal.
You can get rid of most of the whine by lowering the tension a little bit.

i have lowered it(from proper tension) and it did go down a bit but it seems way too loose so i dont want to loosen it anymore... i was thinking it may be the plastic tention pulleys that came in the kit? do they make metal ones?

they usually whine some but usually the plastic pulleys are not the problem. It has to be pretty loose feeling to not whine-almost too loose. I usually just set it and it goes away after awhile when the belt stretches. The stock pulleys were metal...

well, i figured it would strech a little so left it. it has been a year since i did it and it still does it. i will loosen it a bit more tonight and see what it does. thanks guys!! i am just hoping its not the timing belt because i would rather not loosen that....

Yea I had the same issue for weeks after I did mine... I kept reading/hearing from people that "driving the car would stretch the belt and it would go away..." I was driving more than 100miles a day at that time, and eventually I couldn't handle being at stop lights making a loud whining noise anymore...
With the car running I loosened the balance belt until the whining stopped. And yes it is like Floppy Loose, but no more whining!! It has been like that for at least a year now.
I would not mess with the timing belt, as long as it is properly tensioned...
Also check your Alt and P/S Belts -it might just be these... But I will put my money on Balance Belt like everyone else.

I have the Kevlar belt w/ new BS belt and experienced the same thing. It's been 4k miles and nearly a year, there is still some whine. Not really objectionable, and of course it keeps the ricers wondering what's really under the hood. I have the BS belt as loose as I dare, tried running it tighter too, no change. This is on all new tensioners and idlers, as well as WP. It could well be the Kevlar, it is significantly stiffer.

944Ross: i did the same as you, new everything, and still making noise.
i will loosen the BS belt a bit tonight and see.
the PS and ALT belt are old but its not those. it is a different noise anyway....
thanks guys

The Kevlar Belt makes a noise like a supercharger. Really not that much you can do about it. I would not loosen the Balance Belt as the proper tension on it is only 28 ft lbs. You do not want it flopping around too much.

Same thing, Kevlar belt.
But I think it’s the BS belt, I loosened it up to the point you could roll it 180deg with your fingers and the noise remains.
So I just stopped worrying about it.

Whining worries me. I had a roller give out after a timing belt R&R. I believe it was overtensioned and caused the bearing to fail. It was whining right up to the point it broke.

If you losen the balance shaft belt too much, while it specifically is not as crucial as the timing belt, it could fail which could throw the timing belt.

Had my belts retensioned by a mechanic shortly after I bought the car. Hadn't whined before the retension, but noticeably after. Replaced timing belt tensioner roller a little later and retensioned both belts again myself using the Arnnworx tools. Did both belts several times to make sure I could duplicate the "settings". Whining still there.
Oh well... I attribute it to "Porsche-ness".
