Default Instrument Panel Fun

Yesterday, I pulled my instrument panel on my '87 944 Turbo to replace all the burned out bulbs with LEDs. What an amazing amount of fun to test each LED for the right polarity! Especially since you have to connect the 3 cable harnesses to test each time. But I finally got them all working... sort of.

Once I buttoned it all back together and took it for a ride, both the Air Bag and the Seat Belt lights remained on. Any ideas why that is?

Thanks - Jack

I am not sure about this but I was once told by a mechanic that the airbag light has something special going on in it that allows the system to know if the bulb is present and functioning. Possibly you cant swap that one out for an LED. And why bother anyway?

Other than that... how did it come out? Were you happy with the supplier you used?

If you search my threads I did a layout of all the polarities on the instrument cluster and posted a diagram of it.

Actually, it really looks nice! Changing all the dummy lights was probably a waste or at best an overkill. But changing the three bigger lamps and redoing the reflectors really lit up the dash. One thing I noticed was that even though the LEDs are controlled by the dimmer - they don't seem to have a huge range between dim and bright. But I can see my dash again!!

I bought the repair reflector kit from Ian down at 944Online. It was pretty easy to put on. The epoxy sets fast (~40sec), so you can't mess around.
