the RB20/RB25 do not fit with out changing the intake plenum to a greddy or one like it.
the 26 no problem.
the sr20 kit no problem
this is all for hood clearance issues.
I will be testing the vq motors and vh motors by the end of the year.
Iam also toying with the idea of a 3 rotor.

it's always good to have more options for every pocket. Will the kits be priced similar to the ls1 kit or more affordable ?

as I said, it DOES NOT weigh anywhere near that. a ready to run LT1 is right about 500lbs. an LT4 is the same.

I think we've clarified the LT weight... Clarified it wet, dry, bare, tinned, an everything in between. Thank you. OK so I personally am more than willing to answer any related questions to the specs/design format of a rb26 or sr20 swap in the 944 along with give information on reliability and performance of the newly swapped 944 . However I can not post the company's prices or contact info for the company, as it violates rennlist policy.
I do apologize we were very excited about the break through and were anxious to see peoples ideas to add or thoughts on the swaps. we will be applying for a sponsor membership.

I agree one of the topics in this thread was about the ls1 weight vs the rb series or sr. Not the lt1 so y is every one making such a big ordeal out of the lt1 weight.

I just don't understand the rb swap.... or an SR swap, both ways mean buying a motor from outside the US...

Honestly if I were to ever swap a jap motor into a 944, I would go rotary all they way, weight wise they are a bit lighter than the ls1, but its not just about total weight, you have to take into account where that weight is located, a 13b or 12a can sits lower, and further back towards the fire wall than either the rb or ls1 or if you REALLY have your heart set on getting a motor from japppoooonn theres the 3 rotor 20b over there that makes tons of power and its still tiny

Yes, but rotary engine are not very reliable nor are fuel efficient. I would not swap any of these motors, however if I where the rotary would be the last on my list.


Not to mention the sound is love it or hate it!

Where do you get not reliable? Last time I check the rotary motor was the only jap motor to ever win the 24 hours of lemans, a frakenstein rotary at that, they took two 13bs and combined them to make that 4 rotor 24J

I average low 20's with my 13b in combined driving, when i sold it with over 150k on the clock that 13b was still going strong

sound is well yeah love it or hate it, I personally love the sound of a good bridgeport braping away

lets just say in racing theres a reason that rotary motors are penalized to the same degree as turbo motors (displacement multiplers) I think that says all you need to say about how good of motors they are

Just thinking out loud here... why are we going out of our way to turn 944's into rx-7's, supras, and skylines? All very nice cars by themselves but it seems kind of redundant with the cost of swapping and strengthening the 944, you could probably just buy and mod an FC to higher levels (not to mention a chassis built compatible for the engine). If you argue for handling in the 944... that goes out the door once you have a different engine in it since its now either heavier or lighter, and then you'd have to change things to get it back to near 50/50 again. So it all comes down to looks? Personally, skylines/rx-7's/supras are not that ugly; I'd rather have 2 beautiful cars than combining the 2 just to have half of a 944.

I get what you are all saying. All valid points. If any of you have thouroughly researched the cost of another 100hp from an NA, you would come to the conclusion that it is not cost effective. For 10K, i could do somthing unique. I want another 100hp and a different engine seems to be the better idea. I really dont care where the engine comes from or what type it is....I built my 944 to fit me and want to keep it. Besides, who wouldnt want to do a track day and pull away from a few 911's??

To answer the rotary question, I know and have been friends with many many people that are rotary nuts. I have seen the issues that they have and the number of engine replacements (anyone say FD). As for fuel economy, 16-17mpg out of a 1.3l is not good in anyones book although performance and flow don't reflect actual displacement in the case of a rotary. I love rotaries personally, great concept and for a strictly race car good choice. For a street car, I think there are MUCH better options out there, for instance keeping the engines we already have.
