Default I want to dye my linen script seats black

I found a nice set of linen colored script seats. The bolsters are linen colored vinyl. By nice, I mean they are dirty and stained but I can tell they will clean up great, no tears or visible wear. The trouble is, I don't have a car with linen interior. I want to use these in my 944 which has black seats, so i figured since black is the easiest color to dye something, I'd try it.

I don't know anything about dyeing fabric. What product should I use, how should I apply it, and what can I expect? Actually I would prefer a dark gray instead of totally black. I plan to dye the bolsters with SEM color coat as I've had good experiences with it. If anyone has better suggestions, I'm open.

BTW if anyone in the sf bay area has a set of black script seats they'd trade for linen, let's do it.

Thanks!

I have a set of manual script sport seats I'd let go. Not interested in a trade though.

Out of curiosity, how much are you looking to get for the those Jerry?

I replaced my front seats with Cerrullo Gt seats, then spray dyed my linen rear seat and the lower half of my dash black. Looks good, but no one ever sits back there so I don't know how the dye would stand up to butt wear.

Thanks Jerry.

Bob, I like spray dyes when applied to surfaces like vinyl, it looks good and holds up well, but like you said, I don't know how (and doubt if) it would hold up to butt wear. However, since the material I want to dye is a fabric, I'm sure I can use some sort of liquid dye that would actually dye/stain it permanently. I just don't know what products are out there and which ones are good.

I'm just thinking about it logically - if coffee stains NEVER come out (and therefore would withstand wear from sitting on it), then theoretically there must be a similar type of stain I can cause that is black in color.

http://www.leatherique.com/

This is where you want to go...buy a $25.00 air brush at an art supply store for a professional finish. It's pretty easy to do...

Same process as dyeing script cloth? I'm not trying to figure out how to dye the vinyl part, but the cloth part.

That wheel looks great btw.

Hey np, thanks for posting anyway, you gave me an idea for a steering wheel and a set of Audi seats I have that are in poor shape.

So if nobody has any insight maybe I should ask over in OT?
