Default WTF was the PO thinking???

I have started to rebuild and recover my Dash, and I am finding some strange stuff...

When I went to take out the clock (that was not working) this is what I found. Why would someone wire this like this? Also the green wire seems to go all the way down to the DME??? any ideas?

After having seen your radio install I don't think you should be surprised. At least its not smoking

Yea, really. Marc our parts should be here any day. Tracking says released from customs for processing by canada post. So I suspect tomorrow maybe? I think my Dash cover from Classic 9 should be here today as well. I should have the dash out soon.

i am certain that if someone ever bought my car (which will never happen, i am going to kill this thing someday...again) they will ask the same thing.

mostly due to the recently added front 3 ft of the car. but other things too. the red torque tube for example

- my rotor was epoxy glued to the cam tip on mine
- my wiring was a nightmare
- duct tape was holding the bra on
- the rear hatch was blown and the po used a giant piece of cedar wood to hold up the hatch when you opened it up.
- the hood struts were also blown, but at least something resembling a rod held up the hood, a giant aluminum rod, which was hiding under the hood in the battery bay...
- the stereo wiring was also a nightmare..
- the spark plug wires were so old that when they came out of the car they held their shape.

Broomstick might be more attractive than a giant cedar plank LOL. I finally got some new struts, yay for a correctly opening hatch!

I have a long list as well, and the more I work on my car, the more I find.... As Marc has seen my stereo wiring was sparking in the car when we took out the head unit to do some other work....

FWIW, the PO of my car used JB Weld to hold all the switches in place. He even used it on the clock.

The problem with buying new hatch struts is that they usually cause hatch delamination. I like finding good used ones - A friend of mine had a 60k-mile 968 and he wanted new struts, so I scored his old struts.

On a 951 engine I bought a few years ago, the camshaft woodruff key was a 2 nails. I mean....... dude, that is scary. Come on, a woodruff key is like $2 at the dealer and 50 cents from the internet.

The '84 I used to own had an aftermarket setup for central locking, that appeared to be integrated with the radio relay and factory alarm system, a total rat's nest. It was done in a typical "custom audio" fashion, totally undecipherable but it worked, so I didn't touch it. I was afraid to try the alarm.

On the other hand, on an early car, I would not want to be an audio/alarm installer getting $50 to wire in anything under there.
