Interesting. Wonder if I could paint with tire on - just mask it off?

It's not cheap, but Motomotion does a powdercoat dark chrome that looks amazing. They'll take just about any wheel and return it looking NOS. They do amazing work.

It's about the polar opposite of spray painting your wheels with the tires on...I'm sure there are intermediate choices!

I called them and it sounds like about $325 per wheel. I am sure it would be done very nice at that price. Just not sure I woud want to put that much money in them. For my purpose I would probably try to find some used Cup wheels before I went with refinishing what I have now. This is for a 928.

If you'd like to see what the regular chrome looks like go to my work's site www.rhcollectibles.com and look at the black 2005 F360 Spider. Those wheels were ALL scuffed, two were bent, and all looked like crap. If you want a normal silver coat it's a bunch cheaper. I think we paid like $1150 for this car, so the price they gave you is right on.

That finish really, really perks up the car.

What about wheels like Cup IIs, that aren't chrome to begin with?

I LOVE the smoked chrome look, but everything I can find requires them to be chrome to begin with.....

Alsa Corp has a few products....their ChromeFX system is the best nonplated chrome Ive seen but usually requires $6000 machine to apply....but they just released a $600 smaller scale portable version no experience with it but im tempted.

Mirrachrome gives pretty impressive results youd probably want the black version of MirraColor You can spray these with a standard hvlp....

Their Powdachrome
system shows some promise but Ive not seen it first hand....$200 for a portable powdergun set doesnt sound too bad.
