i have a 85.5 944 and my question is that if the light bulb on the back of the cluster has burnt out for the alternator warning lgiht, will this cause a no charge condition? alternator tests good but wont charge and i have no dash light.

That's why, when you first turn the key, before you start the engine, all the idiot lights come on - so you can see if any of the bulbs are burned out.
I once had a Passat that had a bad solder joint on the instrument cluster that both made it look like the bulb was out and the alternator not to charge.

sounds good. i'll pull the cluster and replace the bulb! i just wanted to make sure that this could be the issue before i go pulling things apart. i'm new to the 944 and am learning the car as i go.
