Coolant Temperature Switch

Coolant Temperature Switch
Hello Porsche Owners and Admirers,
Regarding my 1991 944S2, I have been informed that my coolant temperature switch is defective. In the past, my experiences with coolant temperature switches has been, they either work as designed, will not activate the fans or will activate the fans at all times.
My problem is, my fans are being activated to late in the cycle. The fans, both, are being activated at about 115 degrees C (240 degrees F). This is too late for proper engine protection. Do the switches get old and forget time? (JUST JOKING).
Some friends have told me that only one fan operates unless the a/c is on. Some have said, the fans operates according to the cooling demand. If both are needed then both operate. I have also been told that both fans are capable of operating at different speeds.
After saying all of that, could there be other items causing the delayed activation of these fans? Perhaps, the fan relay? Could it be a faulty temperature gauge that's reading higher than the actual temperature?
Would very much appreciate any ideals regarding this dilemma.

It could be the temp sender. I have found when the fan switch appears to be working "late" usually the temp sender is wrong. especially if it does not seem to act like its overheating.

Three Wheelin'
http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/cool-01.htm The fans do work on 2 speeds but, IIRC, both are on at the same time. When the a/c is on both fans run on high speed, bypassing the thermoswitch.

Hi,
I had the same problem. The fans of my S2 started only than the temperature was at or over the second line. Now I have installed a new coolant switch, and the fans start already at the middle of the scale.
I made a small video of the repair:

Enjoy it,
