Default 86 NA weight

I have done a lot of searching to find the actual weight of a 86 944 NA. My car was repainted and all of the factory stickers have been removed,so i don't know it's original weight. I took it to the local dump today to have it weighed, and was surprised at it's still very heavy weight. There has been a lot of work done to bring the weight down and yet still seems heavy. It weighed in at 2740lbs.

I weighed my 85.5 at 2930 lbs on certified scales. After removing the AC, WS fluid reservoir, hood latch, then sticking in an iron block V8 w/alum heads....2980 lbs with 3/4 full tank of gas.

How accurate are dump scales?? The scale at my local scrap yard is "certified" but going on the scales 4 times over the day, there was +/- 50lbs on the vehicle+trailer weight IIRC

the scale at my dump is used by the military, so i'm sure its certified. her is what was done: all carpet removed, all sound deadening removed, door panels replaced with lightweight aluminum panels, dashboard removed and aluminum and carbon fiber dash installed, seats replaced with lightweight race style seats,A/c removed, all power steering removed. And probably more just can't think of it all.

And were you still sitting in the car?

bottom line is these are just heavy cars. Maybe thats why so many are still around.

No i was not in the car and there was no spare tire or jack in the car. Basically anything that isn't necessary for the car to run is gone.

My 86 944 Cup car was under 2490 pounds (without driver and with a couple of gallons of fuel) at the end of a qualifying session earlier this year.

So i guess 2740 isn't that bad, do you think it's the galvanized steel that makes them so heavy?
