Does anyone know what part #21 in the pic is for? It's called a Restrictor. Thanks

it limits the amount of air that is introduced into the venturi tube, i guess its a set amount that porsche came up with and the ventury boosts the vac for the brake booster

Is it worth pulling the intake manifold to put one on? I noticed I don't have one of these on my car.

I have the venturi, but no restrictor. I'm wondering if it's causing my idle problem. It'll only idle at 900rpm with the idle screw turned all the way in. It looks like extra air could bypass the throttle, but I'm not sure how this venturi things works inside.

hmmm... a venturi tube in the brake booster system... interesting. I understand the venturi effect but i always thought that it was manifold vacuum that assisted the braking effort, not vacuum generated from some moving air.

could some patient person explain to me how/why this works?

is this system the reason why my engine will rev up if i brake really hard with the clutch disengaged and the throttle closed?

BS its kindda a dual effect the vac in the manifold is pulling at the booster but the venturidoes do some as well

Tom that might be a good thing to look at because it is metered it might be getting too much air and playing havoc with you idleing

Dermass, here is a snap shot of the water cooling diagram from the PET. Enjoy! <a href="http://www.diateam.no/porsche/other/water.jpg" target="_blank">water cooling</a>

I just want to clarify that the restrictor (#21) is a small metal cylinder with a hole through the middle. This part actually fits ~inside~ hose #10. It is held in place with two hose clamps (parts #22 & #23).

Net, the restrictor is NOT visible from the outside of a properly assembled vacuum system. You should be able to feel it through hose #10, but most likely that hose is hard from repeated high temperature exposure.
